At EGSC's Commencement Ceremony, colored tassels adorn the mortarboard of graduates and distinguish their program of study, as follows:
- Associate of Arts degree - Green
- Bachelor of Arts in Fire and Emergency Services Administration degree - Peacock
- Bachelor of Science in Biology degree - Golden Yellow
- Certificate of Accomplishment in Work Readiness Skills - Green, Gold and White
Beta Beta Beta National Biological Honor Society
Beta Beta Beta (TriBeta) is an honor society for students dedicated to improving the understanding and appreciation of biological study and extending boundaries of human knowledge through scientific research. At Commencement, graduates who are members of East Georgia State College’s Tau Epsilon Tau Chapter are distinguished by a forest green and red cord.
At Commencement, graduates who accomplish a high level of academic achievement, as reflected by their overall cumulative grade point average (GPA) are distinguished by a gold cord.

Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society
Phi Theta Kappa is an honor, educational-service organization that seeks to develop leadership potential and encourage fellowship among students. At Commencement, graduates who are members of Phi Theta Kappa are distinguished by a gold and blue cord.
Advancing leadership is an important component of EGSC’s mission. Students who demonstrate extensive, purposeful engagement beyond the classroom are recognized for their leadership, service, and campus involvement in the following programs:
African American Male Initiative (AAMI)
Graduating students who have participated in the AAMI initiative are distinguished by a black cord at Commencement. Graduates with a 3.5 GPA or higher are also distinguished by an AAMI medallion. Learn more at the AAMI Page.

CHOICE Inclusive Learning Program
Students who are graduating from the CHOICE Program are distinguished by a “CHOICE” medallion at the Commencement Ceremony. Learn more at the CHOICE Program Page.
Correll Scholars Program

Graduating students with military service (active or retired) are distinguished by a navy cord at the Commencement Ceremony.
Student Government Association (SGA)
