The East Georgia State College Lady Bobcats Softball Team continued to be impressive on the softball diamond this past weekend by winning three of four contests on Saturday and Sunday against Andrew College and USC Salkehatchie.
The Bobcats traveled to Andrew College on Saturday where they split with Andrew, falling in game one by a score of 3 to 0. In game two the team bounced back to win 8 to 5 over Andrew.
With the victory over Andrew, the Lady Bobcats finished the first series of conference play against conference opponents with a record of 10 wins to just two defeats, giving the Bobcats the first-place ranking at the mid-point of conference play.
On Sunday the Bobcats continued their dominance on the softball diamond by picking up two more victories over USC Salkehatchie. The Bobcats won game one by a score of 10 to 5 and game two by a score of 16 to 7.
Head Coach Chuck Wimberly stated after the victories on Sunday against Salkehatchie, "We played really well today both in the field and at the plate. We hit the ball extremely well and we were able to play a lot of people in our victories."
When asked about the Bobcats number one ranking at the mid-point of conference play, Wimberly stated, "We are in a really tough conference, and we have played really well up to this point. We must continue to keep our eye on the prize and that is to make the conference tournament by being one of the top four teams at the end of the regular season. We definitely have put ourselves in a great position through this point of the season, but we must not let up and finish strong."
