The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia (USG) recently honored students from each of the system’s 26 public colleges and universities during its annual Academic Recognition Day. East Georgia State College (EGSC) selected Chase Kirkland as this year’s representative. Each student selected best represents the system’s highest scholastic ideals, as selected by their individual institutions. These students have a high GPA, strive for excellence, and have the ability to share knowledge in various areas of expertise.

Chase Kirkland is a sophomore at EGSC-Swainsboro. He is from Alma, Georgia, and is the son of Wayne and Alisa Kirkland. After graduating from Bacon County High School where he was the valedictorian of his graduating class, he decided to pursue his college and baseball career at EGSC. Kirkland said his favorite thing about EGSC is the relationships he has built with his coaches, teammates, and professors – especially Dr. Paul Cerpovicz and Dr. John Cadle.

Kirkland has been named on the President’s List, Dean’s List, and First Team All-Academic at EGSC. He will receive his associate degree from EGSC in May and continue his goal of becoming a pharmacist at South University School of Pharmacy in Savannah, Georgia. His ultimate goal is to move back to his hometown and open his own pharmacy.

“Chase is one of the finest students to come through our STEM programs! We are exceptionally proud of him and his accomplishments, not only academically, but also in sports and life balance.  It's rare for a student to excel in so many diverse areas,” said Dr. John Cadle, campus coordinator.

Academic Recognition Day began 34 years ago as a celebration of Georgia students’ academic achievement. The honorees receive a resolution from the Georgia House of Representatives, along with a letter of commendation from USG Acting Chancellor Teresa MacCartney.
