Natural Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics)
East Georgia’s program in Natural Sciences can give you the foundation for professional careers in the sciences, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, mathematics, or engineering – all at a highly competitive cost compared to other institutions. Our faculty is dedicated and passionate, and we can provide you with the background and skills to excel when you transfer to a 4-year school or professional program. Our graduates have demonstrated success in transferring to bachelor degree STEM majors at our sister institutions in the USG, and to professional schools in STEM-related fields. Join with us to build the foundation for your future!
- You’ll get to work closely with faculty in the classroom, lab, or field.
- You’ll build a network of support and develop skills that will serve you long into the future.
- You’ll get high quality training and instruction for one of the most cost-competitive programs in the USG.

Carryover from Area D: 1 hour
NOTE: To carryover an hour from Area D, students should take MATH 1113, Pre-Calculus, in Area A as a pre-requisite to MATH 1540, Calculus I for the math requirement in Area D. A strong high school background in mathematics and sufficient aptitude are necessary to follow this path. Otherwise, the students should be encouraged to take MATH 1111 before attempting MATH 1113 which results in additional hours.
Total Semester Hours: 67
Careers
Most of our students find professional employment as teachers, physicians, nurses, pharmacists, physician’s assistants, biological researchers, engineers, veterinarians, morticians, nutritionists, or in environmental business, government agencies, the military, agriculture, soil science, or forestry. Nurses and other medical professionals, and teachers in STEM fields are in high demand.

- Our faculty has diverse interests and experience in plant biology, biochemistry, ecology, entomology, genetics, vertebrate zoology, conservation, and all areas of mathematics.
- We have spacious facilities and natural areas, including a greenhouse and new teaching laboratories and classrooms added in 2018. Labs are equipped with computer stations, microscopes, models, slide collections, and apparatus to teach the full range of course offerings. The campus features expanses of natural areas, including aquatic systems, parcels of southeastern Georgia sandhills habitat, and a beautiful nature trail. We are close to the Ohoopee Dunes Wildlife Management Areas and George L. Smith State Park.
- EGSC is a Bee Campus and a Tree Campus, Higher Education. We have active, honey-producing bee colonies and activities associated with both of these broad initiatives. Check out our BeeCam
- Research opportunities and internships are available to help develop your portfolio! Research projects range from aquatic and terrestrial ecology, aquatic toxicology, entomology, zoology, and conservation. EGSC students can avail themselves of opportunities to intern at local hospitals, veterinary clinics, and business establishments. Students gain practical experience that is highly desired in applications to professional schools in nursing, medicine, veterinary practice, and state and private industries. EGSC students have won awards for their presentations and posters at statewide meetings
- Our Study Abroad program can allow you to experience the world! Recent programs have taken students to Costa Rica and Italy.
- An array of clubs focused on activities in the sciences, including the STEM Club, the Beekeeping Club, EARTH Club, and Tri-Beta Club (honorary biology national organization). Club members take part in organized activities on campus or throughout the region or state. These offer many learning and service opportunities.
