GEOLOGY AT EAST GEORGIA COLLEGE
The Department of Geology at East Georgia College offers the Associate in Arts (AA) degree. The department is equipped with excellent research and teaching facilities.
Research facilities include binocular and trinocular petrographic microscopes with a full range of Cargille index of refraction oils, an atomic absorption spectrophotometer, a mineral separation lab, an infrared gas analyzer donated by Los Alamos National Lab, New Mexico, and a wide selection of petrology, thermodynamics, and structural geology software programs.
Teaching facilities include an outstanding collection of minerals, rocks, and fossils. Classroom instruction includes computer, laser disk, and CD-Rom technology. The Georgia Statewide Academic and Medical System (GSAMS) distance learning network is used to teach geology at institutions in Georgia simultaneously linked to one another.
A Computer-Mediated Distance Learning course in Materials and Chemical Thermodynamics for Engineers and Scientists is currently under construction with the Israel Institute of Technology (Technion).
