Meet Harley Strickland

Harley Strickland is a native of Claxton, GA. She is a 2013 graduate of Pinewood Christian Academy. Currently she is a sophomore at East Georgia State College where she has begun her degree in Broadcast Journalism.  On February 1, 2014, Harley was chosen to be Miss EGSC and represent the college at the Miss Georgia pageant in June. At Miss Georgia, Harley competed in interview, swimsuit, talent, evening gown, and on stage question. During the week of competition, she was able to meet and get to know many contestants from all over the state. Harley was also chosen as the winner of the Bob Ritchie Photogenic Award and received a $500 scholarship.

Platform  Hospice: A Servant’s Heart
When choosing a platform, Harley had no trouble! Harley’s grandfather was placed under hospice care when Harley was twelve. Hospice helped her grandfather and her family during the end of his life and after he passed away. After his passing, Harley began to volunteer for local hospices and continues today. She enjoys getting to know the patients and educating patients and families on the importance and benefits of hospice.

Pageant Background
Harley competed and won her first pageant when she was twelve. She continued to compete in local pageants in her community. She says pageants have helped her speaking skills and confidence throughout the years. When she heard about Miss EGSC she was interested but knew she couldn’t compete. She couldn’t compete because it was a preliminary pageant for Miss Georgia which means each contestant must have a talent. Harley’s mother, Jo Ann, encouraged Harley to begin tap dancing lessons and dance in the pageant. She had always wanted to learn to tap and this was her chance. Four months and a lot of hard work later, Harley took the East Georgia stage and won her first prelim pageant. Harley says this proves that anyone can do anything they set their mind to!
