New dual enrolled students must first meet with their high school counselor to discuss what courses they need in order to fulfill high school graduation requirements.
High school counselors must submit approved courses to East Georgia before a student can be advised.
Dual enrolled students receive priority registration to ensure that they have access to the courses that they need to fulfill high school graduation requirements. Students will receive an email from the Dual Enrollment Coordinator with instructions on when and how to sign up for an advisement appointment prior to course registration.
Students can also sign up for an appointment with the DE coordinator here. IMPORTANT: If you make any changes to your course schedule after your Dual Enrollment application has been approved, you must complete a new Dual Enrollment agreement form and have the new course(s) approved by both your high school counselor and the Dual Enrollment coordinator. Students are also not permitted to withdraw from a currently enrolled course without prior approval from their high school counselor verifying if the course will affect their high school graduation requirements.
Dual enrolled students are required to complete the GAfutures Dual Enrollment Funding Application to ensure that they receive the Dual Enrollment Funding to cover their tuition and non-course-related fees.
Students should complete the GAfutures application before registering for classes. Failure to complete the application could result in students having to pay for their cost of enrollment or removal from courses. Students attending a private or public Georgia high schools and students attending a home study program can complete the application online found here.

Below you will find the dual enrollment funding limitations that went into effect in Summer 2020.
Students are not responsible for tuition and mandatory non-course-related fees, such as technology, transportation, and student activity fees that traditional students would otherwise pay.
In order to receive the funds necessary to cover tuition and waive mandatory non-course-related fees, students must submit their GAfutures Dual Enrollment Funding Application prior to the beginning of the term of attendance.
Students are responsible for course related fees as well as fees for non-mandatory services such as parking and dining if students would like to purchase a meal plan.
The program does not cover course related fees or outside reading texts. Students taking a science with a lab will be responsible for a science lab fee. Optional, supplemental or suggested textbooks are not covered by the Dual Enrollment program and are the responsibility of the student.
Students are also responsible for any proctoring fees as a result of any online exams being proctored.
Dual enrollment students have access to almost all fee-supported services, including the library, student activities, and even attendance at athletic events. However, dual enrollment students cannot participate in NJCAA Athletics and do not have access to Health Services or the Counseling Center (except in crisis situations or for referrals).
To check if any course related fees are due, please contact the Dual Enrollment Coordinator or the Business Office (478) 289-2186.
Students participating in the Dual Enrollment program are provided access to required textbooks for approved courses at no cost. Check out the Dual Enrollment Book Program for more information.
In accordance with Board of Regents policy, all applicants who are accepted for admission or re-admission to Georgia Southern University are required to provide validation of lawful presence in the United States in order to receive in-state tuition or other state benefits.

Our Statesboro Students typically choose to live in student-centered apartment complexes if they are not commuting.
The apartment complexes in Statesboro know that many students rely on their financial aid refunds to pay their rent, and the majority of them will work with you to modify payment deadlines to meet financial aid disbursement schedules. In other words, most apartment complexes will allow you to pay rent once you receive your financial aid refund, if you are eligible for a refund.
If you do not have transportation – no worries! EGSC-Statesboro has a shuttle that runs between our campus and Paulson Stadium. Many of the apartment complexes are on the GSU bus route or are within walking distance of Paulson Stadium, which is where the EGSC shuttle bus picks up. Other apartment complexes have their own shuttle buses that drop off at the stadium or other places around campus – you just have to ask them if they have a shuttle bus and where their drop-offs are.
For a list of a few apartment complexes located in Statesboro that includes address, phone number, and website information, please view the Housing Option List

Welcome to East Georgia State College's LiveWell @ EGSC Mental Health and Wellbeing Resource Hub.
The University System of Georgia (USG) has launched a comprehensive plan to significantly expand student mental health services during the COVID-19 pandemic. The program is being funded by an allocation of the Governors Emergency Education Relief (GEER) fund and will allow every student to have access to support whenever they need it.
At East Georgia State College, we will be able to access the USG program to support the health and safety of our students. As such, we will be partnering with Christie Campus Health in our launch of Live Well @ EGSC. We recognize that the needs of students vary significantly and supports need to be broad in scope and tailored to meet the pressures impacting individuals. Through Live Well @ EGSC in partnership with our Office of Counseling and Disability Services, students will have access to the following services beginning in January of 2021:
At EGSC, your wellbeing is our top concern. Our goal is to make sure you are happy and healthy as you are studying and preparing for your future. The EGSC Student of the Month Program personalizes the student experience and cultivates a positive school culture where students feel valued. The awards present an opportunity for the college community to demonstrate EGSC values through an investment in the success of students with diverse backgrounds, strengths, and interests. The EGSC Student of the Month Award recognizes students who represent excellence within the EGSC community. Selection of students is based on commitment to academic growth, engagement in the college community, and contribution to an inclusive and supportive academic environment. Up to three awards are selected each month: the goal is to represent the range of students enrolled across the college’s campuses and online programs. Potential awardees may be submitted by faculty and staff.
East Georgia State College has been recognized as a Tree Campus Higher Education since 2017. Carley Stapleton worked on different aspects of a project to develop a monitoring system for detecting cyanobacteria in water. Cyanobacteria can produce toxins and can accumulate in farm ponds and lakes and other environmental water bodies and are considered an increasingly serious threat to environmental health. Carley performed her research under the supervision of Dr. J. Ed. Schneider.
Shanice McGuire’s research focused on foodborne diseases. The CDC estimates that each year roughly 1 in 6 Americans gets sick from foodborne diseases. This can result in up to 128,000 hospitalizations and 3,000 deaths annually. Three of the top five pathogens contributing to domestic foodborne illness are Salmonella, Campylobacter, and Staphylococcus species. Of these pathogens, Salmonella bacteria cause the most hospitalizations and deaths in the US each year. Additionally, pathogenic bacteria can acquire resistance to common antibiotics, making it more difficult and expensive to treat infections. Shanice McGuire is studying the prevalence of antibiotic resistance in bacteria from domestic chickens by isolating bacteria from manure samples and exposing these bacteria to multiple types of antibiotics. The presence of antibiotic resistant bacteria in chicken manure would indicate a high risk of transfer to humans through contact with live chickens or consumption of undercooked or improperly handled eggs and meat. Shanice worked under the supervision of Dr. Breana Simmons.

EGSC launched a COVID-19 Self-Reporting Form on 8/17/20.
Data is collected from 12AM – 11:59PM every day- reporting every morning during business hours.
In order to keep our community informed about the presence of COVID-19 on EGSC campuses, the college will report the number of positive COVID-19 cases in the table below.
NOTE: The numbers below are based on self-reports by students and employees. Positive cases are counted by EGSC on the day the positive case is reported to the college. In many cases, there is a delay in the self-report to the college and the student or employee is already in quarantine or may have recovered at the time the numbers are reported by EGSC. Similarly, individuals that tested positive but never came to campus, such as students with wholly online schedules and employees teleworking every day, are included in the reporting though they pose no risk to the campus community.
For the above reasons, the below positive cases represent numbers reported by students and employees and should not be viewed as an accurate representation of the current number of individuals with active COVID-19 on any EGSC campus.

How did the Sudie A. Fulford Community Learning Center come to be?
The center was a gift donated by A. D. “Pete” Correll to his wife, Ada Lee, to honor the memory of Ada Lee’s mother, Mrs. Sudie Akins Fulford. “Miss Sudie” was a well-respected and beloved teacher in Emanuel County for over 30 years. Her love for her students was surpassed only by her love of her family. At 5:00 p.m., please join us for an anniversary video celebrating the 10 years of the Center, as well as the wonderful life of “Miss Sudie.”

On Thursday, April 16, East Georgia State College held their annual Spring Honors Night in a virtual ceremony.
Media Statement Released by the University System of Georgia 03/16/20:
The University System of Georgia (USG) has decided that all 26 institutions will move to online instruction for all courses for the remainder of the semester with extremely limited exceptions. This action comes following last week’s decision to suspend instruction for two weeks to ensure business and instructional continuity, and to allow further state assessment of COVID-19.
Students are not allowed to return to campus until they receive permission from their institution, which will be forthcoming soon.
Additionally, residence halls will be closed, with minimal exceptions for students unable to return home, or who cannot find housing elsewhere. Students will receive specific instructions from campus leaders regarding when they will be allowed to return to campus to retrieve their belongings from residence halls. Students must follow those instructions. For those students who are unable to depart campus, we will make every effort to accommodate these students.
USG will be providing guidance to campuses on refunds for housing, dining, and other services. Students should wait for their campus to contact them.
Institutions will remain open, with minimal staff physically on-site, to ensure continuity of certain services.
In the end, we want to ensure that our faculty, staff and students are safe; that we do our part to help stem the spread of the coronavirus in Georgia; and that we fulfill our mission to graduate our students even in the face of these challenging times.
Update from the University System of Georgia 3/12/20 as of 8:45 p.m.:
The University System of Georgia (USG) is consulting constantly with the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) and the Governor’s Coronavirus Task Force.
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp today announced state agencies, school systems and local communities have been given the flexibility to implement closures.
Effective Monday, March 16, 2020, all 26 USG institutions will temporarily suspend instruction for two weeks to allow time for USG institutions to test their business continuity plans and online instruction modules and for state officials to continue to assess the current situation regarding coronavirus (COVID-19) in Georgia.
Students who are currently on spring break are strongly encouraged not to return to campus. Students on campus are asked to depart campus by close of business Friday, March 13, 2020, and to remain away from campus until March 29, 2020. At this time, students are not being asked to move out of their dorms for the remainder of the semester. All institutions are being asked to work with students who are unable to leave campus.
We take very seriously the responsibility to make prudent and well-informed choices for the well-being of our campus communities and the public. We continue to prepare for all scenarios in this rapidly evolving situation. All USG institutions have plans to ensure academic continuity as operations are impacted.
The USG is providing regular updates to all institutions and the public at its website, https://www.usg.edu/coronavirus.
In the interim, all students, faculty and staff who may be traveling in any capacity (either domestically or internationally) are being encouraged to register their travel information so we may provide relevant updates.
East Georgia State College’s Travel Registry can be found at http://bit.ly/2PZS8zm.
The CDC strongly advises against anyone traveling to a location subject to a Level 3 or higher Travel Health Notice, including most of Europe, South Korea, China and Iran. We also encourage community members to check with the U.S. Department of State website (found here: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/international-travel.html), and talk with family and travel companions to make a wise decision about travel plans, particularly related to travel in Europe.
We urge all community members to practice good preventive measures and to visit the USG resource guide (found here: https://www.usg.edu/coronavirus)for the latest information concerning travel advisories and other guidance. You can also find additional information from the CDC here: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html
Prevention of COVID-19 is paramount, and we urge everyone to take appropriate measures such as:
Guidance from DPH identifies those with the highest risk to contract COVID-19 (see link here: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/specific-groups/high-risk-complications.html) are travelers to countries with widespread outbreaks, as well as those travelers’ close contacts. Additionally, those most likely to develop serious illness after contracting COVID-19 include persons who are older than 60, as well as persons with chronic health conditions.
Health officials advise that the incubation period of COVID-19 is 2-14 days, with an average period of 5 days. Symptoms include coughing, fever and shortness of breath. Most people experience mild to moderate symptoms. Those who experience flu-like symptoms are urged to contact the Department of Public Health at 1-866-PUB-HLTH.
The health of our students, faculty and staff is our highest priority. We will continue to work with USG leaders in collaboration with state officials and DPH to act on the most up-to-date guidance available.
March 24, 2020 • Release to the Community
Dear Friends and Supporters of East Georgia State College:
Each and every one of you is important to us. During these unprecedented times, we know you expect to be well-informed about the steps the University System of Georgia and East Georgia State College are taking to protect our treasured students and community. Accordingly, I will be sending you an update each week during this critical period.
First, please accept the sincere thanks of East Georgia State College for all you have done for the college over the years. You are appreciated! Please know that the college is doing everything possible to manage this situation and protect students, faculty, staff and the community. Together, we are going to get through this.
Updates:
The University System of Georgia (USG) has decided all 26 USG institutions will move to online instruction for all courses for the remainder of the spring semester with extremely limited exceptions. This instruction will commence at EGSC on Monday, March 30, 2020 (with the exception of nursing and FESA, which resumed on line instruction Monday, March 23). This action comes following last week’s decision to suspend instruction for two weeks to ensure business and instructional continuity, and to allow further state assessment of COVID-19.
Everything is subject to change. The situation is fluid and any changes may occur rapidly. Everyone is advised to check the EGSC COVID-19 website frequently.
http://www.ega.edu/covid19-old
Points to note:
Accept the reality of daily change. As conditions change, we will likely receive almost daily directives from the USG about small details and big policy issues. Sometimes, directives given to us earlier will change. The situation the USG is managing is changing daily and they are working 24/7 to respond. As the situation changes, we too will adapt.
Watch carefully for scams by e-mail and other electronic means. If in doubt, don’t click.
Spring commencement and Honors Night will not be held. This is, of course, a huge disappointment for our students, their families and supporters, and all of us. For many of our students, their graduation is the first ever in their family. Rest assured, that we are already planning for an appropriate method to recognize the academic achievements of our students. I will keep you updated as those plans develop.

We continue to prepare for all scenarios in this rapidly evolving situation. All USG institutions have plans to ensure academic continuity as operations are impacted. We will continue to work with USG leaders in collaboration with state officials and the Georgia Department of Public Health to act on the most up-to-date guidance available.
Ultimately, we want to ensure our faculty, staff and students and communities are safe; that we do our part to help stem the spread of the coronavirus in Georgia; and we fulfill our mission to graduate our students even in the face of these challenging times.
Most importantly, thank you for all you are doing to respond to this unprecedented situation.
Please be safe.

Dear EGSC students,
Please see the announcement below which was made this afternoon by the University System of Georgia.
Students, other than those granted specific permission by EGSC Housing to remain on campus during Spring Break and the week following, are directed not to return to campus until you receive written permission to do so.
East Georgia State College will work with each student directly about a specific time and place when you may return to campus to collect any personal belongings.
EGSC Department of Housing will contact all students who requested and were granted permission to remain in Bobcat Villas during Spring Break and the week following, to inform them about their housing status.
Thank you in advance for your complete cooperation with this important directive which is intended to protect all citizens of Georgia.

March 15, 2020 • 4:16 p.m.
As you know well, East Georgia State College has temporarily suspended instruction for two weeks beginning on Monday, 3/16/2020. Although instruction is suspended, the college is not closed. The college has created a Task Force which will be meeting regularly and closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation during this two-week period.
This COVID-19 situation has and will continue to be a fluid situation. The directives we receive from national, state, USG and local authorities will likely change from time to time as the situation changes. It is extremely important that each of us maintain regular and direct contact with our supervisors during this period to assure that we are up-to-date as the situation evolves.
• During this two-week period, I encourage you to regularly visit the college’s webpage about COVID-19 to stay up-to-date.
• Many faculty and staff will be teleworking, and those necessary to maintain service and safety will be on campus working. As this situation evolves, it may be necessary to make modifications to teleworking and on-campus assignments. Again, please stay in direct daily contact with your immediate supervisor so that changes can be made as needed.
During this two-week period, our two major goals will be (1) to prepare all of our courses for wholly online instruction so that we will prepared should it become necessary to offer all courses online for an extended period of time following this two-week suspension; and (2) to further develop and test the college’s Business Continuity Plan so that we will be able to continue to offer services to faculty, staff and students at an appropriate level during any continued period of interruption of normal operations. I know that everyone in our college community is committed to the intense hard work which will be necessary to accomplish these goals over the next two weeks. Your work and dedication are deeply appreciated.
Use the Travel Registry
As you know, the college established a Travel Registry to assist us in protecting our college community. You are Encouraged to Use the Travel Registry.
Mandatory Registration
Registration is required if you have recently traveled or plan to travel to any of the Level 3 destinations before the beginning of fall semester 2020.
Voluntary Registration
EGSC also encourages you to voluntarily register any domestic or international travel plans (from now until the beginning of fall semester) as you make those plans. This voluntary registration will enable the college to understand and evaluate risks as the situation develops. In short, knowing your travel plans will enable EGSC to better communicate with you about risks and precautionary measures and to protect our college community.
All Non-essential Travel Is Suspended
During this two-week period of suspension of instruction, all non-essential college travel is suspended. Even if your travel was approved prior to this period, please re-submit any request for travel to your immediate supervisor before traveling if you believe it is essential. That request must be approved by your immediate supervisor, the Vice President for Business Affairs and the President before you travel.
Preparing All Courses for Delivery in Online Format
As indicated above, one of our major goals during this two-week period of suspension of instruction is to prepare all courses for delivery in wholly online format so that we will be prepared for the possibility that implementation of that plan becomes necessary at the end of the two-week period. EGSC’s academic leadership will be working closely with faculty and staff during the next two weeks to assure that we are ready to do this if necessary. Additional resources include:
• The distance learning team at the USG has created a Keep Teaching Resource Webpage designed to provide faculty with helpful resources and contacts to prepare for a transition to online instruction.
• USG eCampus has produced an online training course for USG faculty called Rapid Guide to Teaching Online in D2L. They will share with any institution that requests it. It is a condensed triage-style training that focuses on the basics of online access, communication, quizzes, and assignment submissions. There will be a companion training for students as well as a basic D2L LMS template that faculty can use. If interested, please email Amy Austin, Director of USG eCampus Online Faculty Development, at amya@ecampus.usg.edu.
Rapid Guide to Teaching Online in D2L
You are Encouraged to Conduct All Meetings Electronically, Not Face-to-Face
Please strongly consider the use of Skype, Zoom or conference bridge numbers to conduct all meetings. This includes meetings with as few as two EGSC employees. If you need assistance in setting up these meetings, please submit a work request to our IT department. Please understand that they will have an even heavier workload than usual during this extraordinary period. They stand ready to help you, but your patience is important in getting all of us through this together.
Please practice social distancing
You are strongly encouraged to help make our campuses “hand-shake” free zones and to maintain the practice of maintaining an appropriate distance between individuals in all face-to-face encounters. Also, please take full advantage of the disinfectant supplies made available to your unit and the hand sanitizer stations located around our campuses.
Responding to Requests from Media Sources for Information
It is possible that you will receive requests for interviews from media sources about things like the two-week suspension of instruction, cancellation of college events and external events on campus and teleworking. Please be certain to contact the Office of Institutional Advancement for advice before responding. It is very important that the public and all members of our college community receive clear and consistent information about this situation. Following this practice will help us accomplish that.
Beware of Scams and Misinformation
Please see the email message which was sent by our Chief Security Officer on 3/13/2020. As he points out, as the COVID-19 outbreak continues to evolve, some bad actors are using this situation as an opportunity to harm others. As stated in his email,
Information about Events on Campus During this Two-week Period
Virtually all public events scheduled on our campuses during this two-week suspension have been postponed or cancelled. This includes games scheduled for our Bobcat baseball and softball teams. Our Event Planning Office has already reached out to event organizers about cancellation or rescheduling. If you have any questions about an event which you scheduled or plan to attend, please contact our college’s Director of Event Planning at abwilliams@ega.edu.
Reporting Any Information You May Receive About Individuals Who May Have Been Exposed to COVID-19 or Who Exhibit Symptoms of COVID-19
Please see the information below in the guidance from the USG for employees under the headings: “What Should I do if I am Sick?” “What do I do if I have symptoms of COVID-19?” “What should I do if I am exposed but do not show any symptoms?” and “What if I have been exposed and am showing symptoms?”
The college is required to report known cases of COVID-19 to the Georgia Department of Public Health. Accordingly, if you do become aware of any information of this type, please let your immediate supervisor know immediately. The immediate supervisor should then promptly make the President’s Office aware. If for any reason you cannot contact your immediate supervisor, please call the President’s Office immediately. Also, please remember that exposure to COVID-19, infection or the perception by others that you may have or have been infected is a stressful event for the individual and those close to them. Please assure that you treat any information you may receive about suspected or actual exposure with the highest level of confidentiality possible under the circumstances and with compassion for the individual involved.
Information for Employees from the University System of Georgia
In addition to the above information, the USG has provided the following guidance for employees (as of 3/13/2020).
“What can I do to protect myself?
The most important responsibility we each have is to practice prevention. Prevention is paramount.
Please take appropriate measures such as:
· Wash hands regularly.
· Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
· Cover coughs and sneezes with tissues.
· Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
· Be responsible and courteous to others and stay home if you are sick. If you are experiencing symptoms, contact your health provider.
· Respect personal space when greeting others and during conversations.
· Be mindful of those in high-risk populations such as those with underlying health conditions and the elderly.
We take very seriously the responsibility to make prudent choices for the well-being of the USG community. The Governor has issued a directive to reduce the number of employees on-site at any one time and prioritize teleworking and flexible scheduling.
What action is the University System taking to protect students, faculty and staff from COVID-19?
We continue to monitor COVID-19 and to take safety actions as warranted. We are operating in conjunction with our local, state and national health agencies to include regular updates with the World Health Organization (WHO), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH).
Each college and university president has established a task force composed of leaders from across campus who are working to continually assess the institution’s readiness plans and execute protocols related to medical health and safety, business continuity, emergency preparedness and travel.
What should I do if I am sick?
Employees should not come to work when they are sick. Employees should stay home and use appropriate leave. If an employee appears to be exhibiting symptoms associated with coronavirus while at work, a manager should excuse the employee from work and advise them to seek care from a healthcare provider. Regular benefits-eligible employees have leave available to them to cover absences. Employees should follow standard request and approval procedures. The employee will be expected to use appropriate leave to cover the time away and may be expected to provide a release from a healthcare provider to return to work.
What do I do if I have symptoms of COVID-19?
Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough and shortness of breath; you should contact your primary care physician or institution health center, if applicable for students.
What if I have been exposed but am not showing any symptoms?
Employees who believe they have been directly exposed to COVID-19, but are not showing symptoms, should self-quarantine consistent with DPH and CDC guidelines. Employees must contact their supervisor if they are unable to come to work or need to make a telework arrangement. Employees should contact their healthcare provider if they become sick and remain home.
What if I have been exposed and am showing symptoms?
Employees who believe they have been directly exposed to COVID-19 and are showing symptoms should seek care from a healthcare provider and may be required to self-quarantine. During this time, employees should not come to work and should inform their manager. Managers have the discretion to determine if an employee’s duties and responsibilities can reasonably be performed from an employee’s home location, and, when they can, the manager may elect to offer the employee the option to telework.
Will FMLA cover me if I become ill with the COVID-19?
It depends…
If you are eligible for FMLA and you have tested positive for COVID-19, then yes FMLA will be available to you.
If employees have only been exposed to the virus, FMLA is not applicable. However, they may still need to be quarantined, and applicable non-FMLA leave (to include sick leave) could be an option subject to standard request and approval procedures.
Will FMLA cover me if an immediate member of my family contracts COVID-19?
Yes, FMLA allows an eligible employee to take FMLA leave if either the employee or an immediate family member, defined as spouse, child or parent, contracts the virus.
Can a manager consider telework or flex schedules for employees?
Employees should consult with their supervisors about teleworking and flexible schedule options. Supervisors have increased flexibility to approve telework and flexible schedules in order to comply with the Governor’s directive to reduce the number of employees on-site at any given time. Authorized managers can waive the requirement to complete the usual telework agreement and may use email to confirm approval to telework.
What guidance is available for home quarantine and isolation?
The CDC has guidance on this topic found at the website: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/.
If my job involves travel and I’m concerned about potential risks, what should I do? What if I am a manager of an employee who is scheduled to travel for work?
All non-essential business travel is suspended in order to comply with the Governor’s directive. Managers have the authority to rescind prior travel approval. Required in-person meetings should be transitioned to an electronic format or rescheduled. USG official travel to a CDC Level 3 or higher country is not authorized and will not be reimbursed.
Will I be reimbursed for travel if my meeting is cancelled?
Employees should explore all options to obtain refunds or credits for cancelled or rescheduled conferences and business meetings. Employees will be reimbursed f
NEW - March 30, 2020 • Release to Community
Dear Friends of East Georgia State College,
During these unprecedented times, the events of each day remind me repeatedly of the importance of East Georgia College to the region we serve and to our amazing students --- and the importance of each one of you to our future. Thank you for all you have done for the college and for your continuing support.
At this time of year, Joyce Boehmer and I would ordinarily be preparing furiously for things like Honors Night, Commencement, events at our home with students, faculty, staff, and alumni, baseball and softball games and graduation events for our student leadership and staff leadership development program. Sadly, the COVID-19 situation changes everything. Our focus instead is on assuring that residents in Bobcat Villas are moved out safely, that the conversion to wholly on-line classes for spring semester goes smoothly, that our business operations remain sound and that we are prepared for the eventual return to normal operations. As you do, we look forward to that day when we can share time with our Bobcat community face-to-face. We are confident that we will get there because so many people are focused like a laser on maintaining an excellent learning environment in the face of COVID-19 and preparing for the college’s bright future.
For the safety and well-being of all, we may be more physically separated right now than ever before. But one thing holds true: As East Georgia State College, we stand together, always. We are nearly 50 years strong, and we will navigate these difficult times together. No matter where you are right now, please know that our heartfelt concern is for every member of our Bobcat community. I sincerely appreciate everything you are all doing to meet these challenging times.
The college remains open for business with minimal staff and faculty on campus. All classes will resume in a wholly on-line format on Monday, March 30, 2020. Most of our employees are working remotely from home. Commencement in May and Student Honors Night in April have been cancelled. We are actively planning, however, for creative, alternative means to recognize student achievements. All spring graduates will, also, be encouraged to participate in the fall 2020 commencement.
There is only one entrance open at the Swainsboro and Statesboro campuses. The EGSC Police Department is only allowing authorized personnel to enter the campuses. No visitors to campus are allowed.
Other important information regarding changes includes:
I know that right now, many of you have questions about what the college is doing to support students as we launch remote education, which will continue for the remainder of the semester. I encourage you to visit the college’s COVID website regularly for updated information on student services and support: www.ega.edu/covid19
Here are a few of our efforts:
As we begin this next week, remember you are a valued and essential partner in the life and future of EGSC, and we are grateful for you. Thank you for all you are doing.
Please be safe!

NEW - March 29, 2020 • Release to EGSC Students
Dear EGSC Students,
EGSC’s devoted faculty and staff miss seeing you on campus. During the last two weeks, they have prepared intensely for the beginning of wholly online classes on Monday, March 30, 2020. I encourage you to login right now to GeorgiaView D2L Brightspace so that you are ready to go Monday morning.
At this time of year, Joyce Boehmer and I would normally be getting ready to have groups of students over to our home for taco dinners, smores, Klondike bars and conversation. Even though we are not going to be able to be with you personally, it is important to Joyce and me that you understand how much each of you means to us. Completing this semester successfully and registering for your next semester are critical to your success. So, please be patient and flexible to adjust to this new online environment and we will get through it together and we will all be better for it.
As you are aware, we have extended remote instruction for students and remote work for many of our faculty and staff through the end of this spring semester. In addition, all campus events are canceled or postponed for this time period, including commencement, honors night, athletic events and many other traditions that have helped to build our legacy. We will come through this and come out stronger than before.
I want to share some updates and resources that you will find helpful.

The refund calculation date is March 16, 2020. This refund plan was completed in coordination with the USG.
*Students who did not pay the above fees because of the fee structure for the program in which they are enrolled (nursing students and students in the Fire and Emergency Services Administration program) will not receive a refund.
Refunds of Swainsboro Campus Housing and Dining:
Additional information about refunds:
EGSC - Statesboro students who purchase a meal plan from Georgia Southern University should contact Georgia Southern University with any questions.
Refunds of these fees will mirror students' normal refund process via BankMobile Refund Selection. You must make a BankMobile Refund Selection.
Please see the following link on how to make your Refund Selection.
http://www.ega.edu/announce/bankmobile-presentation-02-19-20.pdf
Fees, other than those described above, have been carefully studied and vetted with the USG and deemed to be essential to the continuity of instruction and business operations.
Any outstanding balances owed to East Georgia State College (e.g., parking fines, lockout fines) will be deducted from your refund.
Students will not receive refunds of fees paid by any need-based scholarship. However, the scholarship reversal will not exceed the refund amount and will not create a balance due from the student. Please note that the deadline has passed for a student to withdraw without academic penalty from the Spring 2020 full-term.
Students who have registered for the Spring 2020 Mini-Session II term can withdraw without academic penalty through March 26, 2020 (Augusta Campus) and through April 7, 2020 (Swainsboro/Statesboro Campuses).
Refunds for Mini-Session II withdrawals will be processed under normal refunding guidelines.
We understand that these uncertain times have left you with many questions. Please rest assured that we are working diligently to provide answers as fast as possible.
Please reach out via email to accounts@ega.edu with any questions or concerns you have.
Here is More Important Information
As you already know, some very difficult decisions regarding the delivery of your education were made by the University System of Georgia in an effort to protect you during the next several months. Despite the recent change to wholly on-line instruction for the rest of the spring semester and strictly limited access to the East Georgia State College campuses, the Office of Counseling and Disability Services is here to help with this transition and any other needs that you may have. Due to recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to practice social distancing, our office has suspended all face to face counseling and disability services. We will work primarily in a remote capacity for the remainder of the Spring semester.
Please be mindful that it is not uncommon for people to notice changes in mental well-being during major disasters such the Coronavirus Pandemic. Increased worrying, sadness, and fear are only a few of the symptoms that someone may experience. If there is a change in your mental well-being, it is very important that you cope in a manner that does not increase your stress level during a time that is already stressful. I can assure you that promoting student well-being and resilience will remain our focus.
If you would like to schedule an appointment to speak to a counselor, please contact us via email (lrburns@ega.edu or sroyals@ega.edu). We will be monitoring our email accounts during normal operating hours, Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm. For emergencies, call 911 or the Georgia Crisis and Access Line by dialing 1-800-715-4225.
Stay in touch and check catmail, texts and social media regularly. Stay in touch with your professors and instructors.
I realize these emails are lengthy and I applaud your diligence in paying attention to each word. Stay strong and stay resilient. We remain focused on the health and safety of those in our campus community and we will emerge from this crisis with renewed commitment. With every challenge, there is opportunity.
My sincere wishes for a great week as you embark on this new venture.
Stay safe, EGSC Bobcat Family!

We take very seriously the responsibility to make prudent and well-informed choices for the well-being of our campus communities and the public. We continue to prepare for all scenarios in this rapidly evolving situation. All USG institutions have plans to ensure academic continuity as operations are impacted.

East Georgia State College is actively monitoring the current situation concerning Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and taking proactive steps to promote the health and safety of everyone in our college community. Each of you is extremely important to us.
As you may have already heard, all faculty, staff and students of University System of Georgia institutions who have recently traveled, or will soon travel, to a location designated as Level 3 or higher by the US Center for Disease Control (CDC) must remain at home as they monitor their own health condition for 14 days prior to returning to campus. See the CDC website for a list of those Level 3 locations: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/after-travel-precautions.html .
In order to implement this important step to protect our college community, EGSC is instituting a new Travel Registry effective March 10, 2020. Registration is required if you have recently traveled or plan to travel to any of the Level 3 destinations before the beginning of fall semester 2020.
Please click here to register your travel.

Administrative Responsibilities
At the beginning and end of each semester faculty is responsible for various functions related to the accurate keeping of a student’s Academic record. There will be times in which you are called by the Registrar’s office to perform actions related to record keeping in which only you as the faculty member can do. Please see below for a list and definition of Administrative responsibilities.
All faculty should be familiar with the various requirements for documenting students’ enrollment in class and for completing necessary forms.
Attendance Verification- Non-Attending Students
Early in the semester, all faculty will receive an email from the Registrar with instructions for completing Attendance Verification in Banner. Instructors must verify enrollment by identifying names of students whose names appear on the roll but who have never attended class. It is the faculty member’s responsibility to check their official rosters daily in Banner. D2L is not considered as the official class roster.
Update: The process to request Add backs or Drops for non-attendance is now a form request. If you are unable to access the Non-attendance Request form via your MyEGSC forms you may access it below.
Attendance Verification- During the non-payment drop
After the drop for non-payment, Faculty will receive an email from the Registrar's office with the instructions to verify the attendance of students dropped for Non-payment of tuition and fees for the semester. Faculty must respond to the emailed list of students to confirm if the student has or has not been attending their course. This is completed for Financial Aid purposes and attendance must be verified for all courses on a student’s schedule in order for the student to be added back to their courses.
Grade Reporting
Grades are due in Banner by the date designated each semester by the Registrar’s Office. A "not reported (NR) grade" is assigned to students when grades are not submitted to the Registrar's Office prior to the deadline. Each instructor who does not meet the requirement will need to fill in a separate grade change form for each student in the class. The Registrar sends and email each semester to let faculty know when grades are due in Banner.
Grade Changes for Incomplete
Faculty must complete a “Justification for an Incomplete” Form via their MyEGSC account. If an incomplete grade is assigned, the course requirements should be completed and a grade assigned within one year. Incomplete grades are changed to a grade of "F" after the one-year period expires.
Course or Semester Withdrawal
A student may withdraw from a course or courses following the scheduled drop-add period by completing the appropriate form. Withdrawals are not official until received and processed by the Registrar's Office. It is primarily the student’s responsibility to follow the appropriate procedures when asking to withdraw from a class. Student and Faculty can see EGSC’s complete withdrawal policy in the current school catalog.

Meal Plans are available to all EGSC-A students and there are several dining locations on campus.
East Georgia State College (EGSC) accepts transfer credit in accordance with the polices, rules, and practices of the University System of Georgia, and its institutional mission. The EGSC course equivalency for each transfer course is determined by system-wide agreements, articulation agreements between specified institutions, and faculty members of the respective department and is based on criteria such as level, course content, quality, course outcomes, and a student’s degree program. Where applicable, the Registrar’s Office processes transfer credit based on these faculty decisions.
Evaluation of transfer credit will not be done on a course-by-course basis for a student who holds a baccalaureate degree. Only the final GPA and number of hours are recorded. Core areas (A-E) and general electives will be waived for Post-Baccalaureate students who completed their degree at another USG institution. Students who completed a Baccalaureate degree at a non-USG institution will need to speak with their advisors to determine if any additional courses are needed to complete their degree program at EGSC.
All students seeking to obtain an undergraduate degree from an USG institution are required to demonstrate proficiency in US History and Constitution and Georgia History and Constitution. Both requirements may be satisfied at EGSC by completing POLS 1101 and HIST 2111 or 2112.

The University System of Georgia (USG) colleges and universities award academic credit to students who score well on certain exams, including the Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), College Level Examination Program (CLEP), and Dantes Subject Standardized Tests (DSST) exams. (https://www.usg.edu/student_affairs/high_school/credit_by_exam) https://www.usg.edu/academic_affairs_handbook/section2/C781
Test scores (AP, CLEP, IB, etc.) must be officially submitted to the Institution for consideration. Course Credit for credit by examination will be awarded with a grade of “K” and will not count in a student’s academic GPA.
The course credit schema below will be used by East Georgia State College with allowances made for variable credits in each category to account for labs and/or for depth of material cove red in the IB Program subject area that may be comparable to more than one college-level course:

College credit will vary dependent upon courses offered at EGSC and eligibility requirements will be determined by the respective Schools (Social Science, Humanities, Math/Science).
If a student determines acceptance of credits may disadvantage him/her, the student may opt not to accept offered credits. Additionally, a student may appeal to the Dean of the appropriate school if he/she believes the assessment resulted in an error of the credits awarded. As with other academic matters, if the issue is not resolved satisfactorily at the School level, the student may elect to appeal to the Vice-President for Academic Affairs, whose decision will be final.
Transfer credit is not guaranteed. Credit is considered on an individual basis. Each student will meet with an academic advisor who will review the student’s academic history and determine how transfer credit may be applied within the curriculum. For inquiries about a course/courses for which an equivalent or elective credit is thought to be plausible but for which no equivalent or elective credit was granted, please contact the appropriate academic department. Students needing additional assistance with transfer credit policies should contact the Registrar's Office at (478)289-2014. East Georgia reserves the right to deny transferability of credit should it not meet the criteria outlined in the Transfer Credit Policy above.

The Transfer Equivalency Tool is a database that allows students to gain a general idea of how courses taken at other institutions may transfer to EGSC. The tool is for reference only. The information contained in the tool is updated regularly and is subject to change. Not all courses from a given institution may appear on the tool. The absence of a course from the database does not necessarily preclude transferability; similarly, the inclusion of a course in the database does not guarantee transferability

Every ten years, East Georgia State College undergoes reaffirmation of accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). The college was last accredited by SACSCOC in 2011 and is preparing for its next reaffirmation in 2021.
Accreditation is a voluntary and self-regulatory process that provides a framework for EGSC to continuously improve in all facets of operation, including governance, administration, faculty, educational programs, learning resources, student affairs, financial resources, and physical resources. EGSC uses the accreditation process to explore institutional effectiveness and document that the college is accomplishing its mission.
A majority of faculty, staff and administrators are involved in the college’s reaffirmation of accreditation. These efforts focus on preparing two comprehensive documents:
• The Compliance Certification
• The Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP)
The Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) is a long-term plan that focuses on improving (or enhancing) student learning, performance, and student success. It is an integral component of the reaffirmation of the accreditation process. The QEP topic is derived from an institution’s ongoing comprehensive planning and evaluation processes. It reflects and affirms a commitment to enhancing overall institutional quality and effectiveness by focusing on an issue the institution considers important to improving student learning outcomes and/or student success.
East Georgia State College’s accreditors require a QEP. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACSCOC) is the accreditation council for degree-granting institutions such as East Georgia State College. SACSCOC is committed to improving education by making sure each institution meets high academic standards. Thus, they require institutions to evaluate each component that impacts student learning and success and identify areas that need improving.
Since the QEP is seen as a continuous improvement activity of the institution, the topic selection process MUST involve input from EGSC's Foundation Trustees, faculty, staff, students, and our community.
There must be a review of the strategic plan, student data, faculty discussions about the academic needs and performance of their students, and student input about what they believe is missing from their academic experience or career development preparations. The topic must emerge from the strategic planning process, data, and institutional goals. The topic must focus on student learning outcomes and/or student success, as the topic is selected in the spirit of seeking continuous improvement. Thus, the QEP is a course of action that is specific to an institution and its mission. It is intended to be part of self-identified needs at a particular institution.
Student Learning Communities (SLC), generally defined as a cluster of linked courses that share the same cohorts, significantly impact learning, academic success, and retention. Other benefits for students include a smooth transition to college life, exposure to diverse viewpoints and experiences, and a sense of belonging to a diverse community. Through student learning communities, East Georgia State College focuses students on integrating knowledge so that they can make multiple, interdisciplinary connections that lead to application skills like problem-solving and analysis. Thus, East Georgia State College’s Quality Enhancement Plan is designed to support traditional and nontraditional students for academic success while ensuring a high-quality academic experience that prepares graduates for lifelong learning. In short, if students come to EGSC to “get associated,” then EGSC should teach them how “to associate.”
The goals for Student Learning Communities: Learning to Associate are to improve student learning and increase student course success and retention by developing a curriculum designed to integrate knowledge across the disciplines so to strengthen the quality of academic engagement and by creating opportunities that connect students to a network of peers and faculty for support in persisting in their degree programs.

Built in 1925, The Morgan House stands atop a graceful swath of lawn on West Moring Street in Swainsboro. This 91,134 square foot home, located on 2.09 acres, boasts not only a spacious front lawn with a small creek, but also smaller side lawns of differing levels, a grand fire pit, screened back porch and more for any and all possible activity needs. There is also ample parking both along the large circular drive and off of Herrington Street with access to the house through a gate.
With a formal dining room, sitting room, library, den, kitchen, two restrooms and reading nook downstairs, The Morgan House is able to host a wide variety of activities for the campus and community. Currently, the second floor is closed to visitors and is undergoing renovations.
Dr. Boehmer, Harry Morgan, Gay Fournier and Denny Key
Named for the Morgan family, The Morgan House was donated to East Georgia State College in 2015 to serve as a bridge between campus and community in Swainsboro. James H. “Jimmy” Morgan, patriarch of the family, lived in the home until his death just shy of his one hundred and first birthday. According to his children, Harry, John and Gay, he began to wonder about the fate of the home and the children decided it might be worthwhile to donate it to the college. Jimmy enjoyed the idea and, after discussions with his wife, Jean, they decided to talk to EGSC President Bob Boehmer about his vision for the house and how it would be integrated into the activities of the college and community.
In addition to the house, much of the furnishings, paintings and other decor of the home was donated to the college to preserve the dignity of the house.
The Morgan House was officially opened as part of East Georgia State College on May 31, 2015 with an open house event. Harry Morgan and Gay Fournier were in attendance from the family and shared their thoughts on the college and the Morgan House's role in the community. According to Harry, "Bringing the educational facility of the college into the city is one of the key opportunities for the future. We look forward to seeing it."
On the first Friday of each month (excluding January and May), East Georgia State College hosts First Friday at The Morgan House, a celebration of campus and community that brings together students, faculty and staff with the community we serve for fun, food, music and art from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Art shows are curated by Professor Desmal Purcell and feature everything from 2D to 3D student work, paintings, photography, jewelry, boomerangs, and more. If you're interested in displaying work at The Morgan House during First Friday, contact him at dpurcell@ega.edu to be put on the schedule. Musicians, affectionately known as the EGSC MusicMakers, are coordinated by English Professor Dr. Alan Brasher and welcome any and all musicians of any skill level to join in and sing, play, or even shake a maraca to the beat.
Each month, a different EGSC department or group takes charge of providing refreshments and establishing a theme for the events. Angie Williams, Event Planner at EGSC, coordinates the year's rotation. If your department is interested in hosting a First Friday event, contact her at abwilliams@ega.edu.
