LOCATING MATERIALS AND
INFORMATION The default setting for the computers in the Library is the East Georgia College homepage. From there you can access the websites of the Library and GALILEO (Georgia Library Learning Online), Georgia's virtual library. Books, videos, and periodicals in our library can be located through the link GIL@EGC that is found on the GALILEO Home Page. Items can be searched for by using an Exact Search (author, title, subject), or by using the Keyword Search. Results display full bibliographical information and the call number. Over 27,000 full-text electronic books from the vendor netLibrary are accessible through GIL as well. To check out ebooks an account must be set up on campus, and then the ebooks can be checked out and read at your home computer using your account name and password. GALILEO also provides access to multiple databases which provide citations to articles in periodicals and to chapters in books. Many articles are full-text. GALILEO is accessible from off-campus at http://www.galileo.usg.edu using a password available to EGC students, faculty and staff. Use the GIL@EGC link to locate the password. |

BORROWING AND REQUESTING BOOKS EGC students, faculty, and staff may check out books from the general collection for 4 weeks, videos for 3 days, and bound and unbound periodicals overnight. Reference books do not generally circulate, but exceptions can be made based upon a specific request. Fines are levied for overdue materials. EGC students should present a valid and current ID card in order to check out material. Students, faculty, and staff with a valid and current ID from another University System of Georgia institution automatically qualify for borrowing privileges. Individuals from surrounding communities may apply at the circulation desk for community borrowing privileges that are granted to persons 18 years of age or older. Community borrowers must provide current photo identification. If EGC students, faculty and staff need specific books that are not available at the EGC Library, they should search the GIL Universal Catalog or GILUC. If books are located here they can self-request them using GIL Express. If EGC users need a periodical article not available on GALILEO or in the Library's periodical collection, they must use the Interlibrary Loan system. Ask the Library Staff about requesting materials. |
