EAST GEORGIA STATE COLLEGE invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Biology with emphasis in Plant Genetics in the Division of Mathematics and Science at its Swainsboro campus. Preference will be given to applicants who: 1) can provide undergraduate students with laboratory research experiences, 2) have research expertise and interests that complement current faculty research programs, and 3) have a demonstrated record of effective teaching at the undergraduate level.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Math Science division of East Georgia State College emphasizes hands-on experience for undergraduates in faculty research programs and internships. Successful candidates will be expected to teach both lower division courses and upper division specialty courses; to establish a program of research in which undergraduates participate; and to contribute service to the college. Full-time faculty at East Georgia State College teach 15-16 semester credit hours on and/or off campus, day and/or evening, with reductions in load for scholarly research and activities. In addition to teaching, faculty are responsible for professional development, service to the institution and community, academic advisement, and instructional assessment.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in relevant discipline. Commitment and ability to work with a diverse student population.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in research and teaching. Experience in mentoring undergraduates in research. Experience in developing new courses.
RANKS AND SALARIES: Dependent on qualifications and experience. Ten month contract; summer teaching possible.

In addition to teaching, faculty are responsible for professional development, service to the institution and community, academic advisement, and instructional assessment.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: Doctorate preferred. Masters degree with a minimum of eighteen graduate semester credit hours of subject specific work in the field required. Candidates should be committed to the two-year college mission, with a primary interest in the teaching/learning process as related to the two-year college student. The successful candidates for the mathematics and English positions must have a strong interest in teaching developmental courses and working with under-prepared students. Commitment to excellent student advising is essential. Competence in electronic communications, as well as distance learning, is desired.
RANKS AND SALARIES: Dependent on qualifications and experience. Ten month contract; summer teaching possible. All positions are entry level.
