Austin Marie Carruth was crowned Miss East Georgia State College on February 2, 2013. Since that time, she has busily served as a poised and exuberant ambassador for EGSC.
Although Austin’s mother, Cherry Carruth, competed in the Miss Georgia Organization, she was hesitant to allow Austin to compete in the highly competitive world of pageantry. However, Austin has flourished in the system since her debut at 18 years old, winning almost $3,000 in scholarships and placing as 1st Runner up in numerous Miss Georgia preliminaries, before winning her dream title as Miss EGSC.
When describing herself, Austin says she is “creative, helpful, and blessed” and says she is so thankful to have the opportunity to represent a college whose growth is exponential and guaranteed.
Austin is making a difference at EGSC and in her local community through her various volunteer efforts and opportunities.
Austin has volunteered with the Salvation Army, Alex’s Lemonade Stand (Childhood Cancer Organization), CURE, EGSC Ambassadors, Shepeard Community Blood Center, Children’s Miracle Network, Relay For Life, Allstar Dance, and Tri-M Music Society.
She is also a member United Primitive Baptist Church in Swainsboro, Georgia.

Austin Carruth- “Childhood Cancer Awareness”
Austin selected her platform due to her brother, Zach Carruth, being diagnosed with cancer at the age of nine. Being offered surgical removal of his ganglion cyst, Zach was fortunate not to have to suffer chemotherapy or radiation as a method of treatment. However, this was a wake-up call for Austin and her family and showed them the preciousness of life. She decided to further research childhood cancer facts, statistics, and survival rates and discovered just how many are truly affected by this dreaded disease.
Austin has been involved in numerous childhood cancer volunteer fundraising projects, such as Alex’s Lemonade Stand, an organization started by a young girl dealing with childhood cancer, where Austin sold lemonade to raise money in order to find a cure. Austin also donated her time at Summer’s Concert in the Park in Dublin, Georgia, where she sang in the concert and volunteered at activity booths. Through the pageant circuit, Austin has competed in and volunteered for pageants geared towards raising money and promoting childhood cancer awareness, such as Miss Summer’s Dream and Miss South Georgia Princess.
Austin hopes to continue to support the awareness of childhood cancer by visiting the children and family affected by this disease. She will continue volunteer work to raise money for various organizations. Her hope is to start her own childhood cancer benefit pageant.
The Future for Austin
