Downtown Development Intern

Position Summary: The Downtown Development Intern will work with staff and the DDA Board of Directors and work groups in coordinating special events, promoting the downtown area and its businesses, helping to ensure a polished appearance of downtown, maintaining communication with downtown businesses and friends of downtown, and more.

Responsibilities/Duties/Projects May Include:

  • Attending event planning meetings - Maintaining communication with downtown businesses and property owners
  • Recruiting and coordinating event volunteers - Promoting the downtown area and special events through social media, traditional media, and grassroots efforts
  • Designing/developing collateral material
  • Managing a database of community contacts
  • Collecting data to be used in business recruitment
  • Assisting the organization and execution of downtown events
  • Assisting the management of the Downtown Swainsboro Farmers Market

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to effectively communicate with the public
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and the Internet - Excellent written and verbal communication skills - Must be able to work well under stress
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and proactive
  • Must be a team player who is also comfortable working independently

Benefits: This is an unpaid internship. The Downtown Development Intern will have the opportunity to personally contribute to the revitalization of downtown Swainsboro through working with the Downtown Development Authority of Swainsboro as it works toward designation as a Main Street City. He or she will have the opportunity to network with community leaders while developing his or her communication, management, and critical thinking skills.

Come lead a team of data warehousing professionals in completing one of the most exciting BI Program re-designs in higher education. Over the coming year we will be bringing together data from 35 institutions in a central data warehouse to support the information needs of the University System Office. Order Selector/ Freight Handler

Department: Frozen Warehouse

Schedule: Variable

Supervision:

  • Reports to Warehouse Shift Supervisor
  • Work schedule is directed by the Warehouse Lead persons
  • Executes work under direction or established procedures 90% of the time.
  • Works independently setting priorities and work schedule 10% of the time.
  • Primary Purpose: Use the material handling equipment and the warehouse management system to build pallets of product for shipment, receive product into the warehouse, put away product in the fill locations and replenish product into home slots.

    Essential Duties:

    • Safely and efficiently utilize the warehouse material handling equipment
    • Utilize RF units and pick tickets, and receiving documentation.
    • Ability to build stable, well-built accurate pallet loads for shipment, understanding the pallet layers, heights, and counting methods used when working with pallets of product.
    • Read and understand product descriptions, packaging and pick ticket messages.
    • Consistently meet established company production and service level standards.
    • Understanding of the operations clerk, order selector, and dock worker’s duties as they apply to the order selector position.
    • Utilize good housekeeping processes.
    • Utilize warehouse processes to minimize damage and other wastes.

    Occasional Work Performed:

    • Inventory counting.
    • Temporary assignment to opposite warehouse as needed.

    Safety Responsibility:

    • Assumes responsibility for the workplace safety of self and co-workers, and for the safety conditions of the work location.

    Working Conditions:

    • Temperature extremes: hot and humid temperatures and/or 5 below zero freezer temperature.
    • Occasional overtime as necessary to meet production schedules.

    Requirements:

    • High School diploma or general equivalency degree required
    • Meet minimum requirements on pre-employment testing, including physical ability tests.
    • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds continually during shift.
    • Ability to consistently meet minimum production standards and company service levels.
    • Must obtain Electric Pallet Jack and Narrow Aisle license and forklift certifications during initial training phase.
