Upon graduating from Starr's Mill High School in 2005, Coach Nation attended Georgia Southern University where he lettered three years as Relief Pitcher (most frequently as a closer) for the men's baseball program from 2005-2008. As a junior in June of 2008, he allowed zero runs in his first ten innings pitched finishing the season with an ERA of 5.93 and seven saves.
Coach Nation was selected in the 22nd round of the MLB draft by the Seattle Mariners. He spent three seasons with the Mariners Organization and continued playing for minor league affiliates located in Pulaski, Virginia. Nation was named "Most Valuable Pitcher" with an ERA of 2.74 with other minor league affiliates in Clinton, Iowa and High Desert, California. More recently, Nation played the 2011 and 2012 season for two teams in the North American League, an independent affiliate. His most recent season, with the Fort Worth Cats, he became the ace starter, pitching 123.1 innings, four complete games, an overall ERA of only 2.77 and finished third in the League statistically.
Coach Nation married his wife, Molly, in 2009, a Science Teacher at Langston Chapel Middle School in Statesboro, Georgia where they currently reside. In the fall of 2012, he graduated from Georgia Southern with a Bachelor’s Degree in General Studies and hopes to continue his career as a pitching coach, aspiring to possibly become a head coach one day.
