Dr. Kearns has taught at EGSC since 2005. She also served as Disability Counselor for 6 years. Previously, she was Liaison for the Regents Center for Learning Disorders at GSU. She is currently Psychology Academic Coordinator and representative to the BOR Psychology Advisory Board. As a Licensed Psychologist, Dr. Kearns has conducted assessments for nearly 20 years and served as a consultant to the Educational Testing Service since 2004. She received the 2012 Distinguished Faculty Award in Social Science and 2016 American Psychological Association Teaching Resources Award. Dr. Kearns is married to Merritt Kearns, M.A., Professor of Fire Science, and they have 3 daughters.
Dr. Kearns' primary interest is the assessment and accommodation of students with learning disorders at the high school and postsecondary levels. Tangential to this interest is the intersection of race and gender in identification and provision of services. Finally, she studies professional cross-cultural competence and student multicultural awareness.
