Bio

Education:
B.A., History, Franklin and Marshall College, 1976
M.Div., Covenant Theological Seminary, 1982
M.S., University of Southern Mississippi, 1988
Ph.D., History, University of Southern Mississippi, 1994

Biography:
Dr. Derr grew up in Pennsylvania, but has lived the majority of his life in the South.  He came to East Georgia State College in 1994 to teach on the Swainsboro campus, but has since transferred (since 2011) to teach on the Statesboro campus.  His specialty is the teaching of Western Civilization and the integration of reading and writing into the study of history. 
Dr. Derr’s hobbies are camping, hiking, and gardening.  He has the distinction of being the first intercollegiate sports coach at EGSC, having coached an EGSC wrestling team from 2005 to 2009.  His wife, Nancy, is a registered nurse with a specialty in infant nursery and lactation.
