Counseling Center Services

Personal Counseling:

  • Coping with life changes such as: relationships, adjustment to college, family, relocation, etc.

  • Coping with minor personal problems such as: stress management, depression, test anxiety, etc.

Career Counseling:

  • Referral to community agencies to assist with employment needs.

  • Career Resource Library.

  • Georgia Career Information System (GCIS) – computerized career guidance program.

  • Discover (Comprehensive Career Planning Program)-  

    • Assess career interest, abilities and job values
    • Explore occupations, majors, schools
    • Develop a resume and conduct a job search
    • Provides access to information about occupations, schools, financial aid, and job seeking resources
  • Resume and job interviewing preparation.

Academic Counseling:

  • Assess learning style

  • Counseling on test preparation techniques

  • Counseling on test anxiety

Disability Services:

This service is provided for students who seek help through classroom accommodations due to a disability. Students should begin pursuing disability accommodations 6 months prior to beginning their first semester in college in order to complete application and eligibility evaluations.

Outreach Programming:

Workshops provided upon request, including but not limited to the following: stress management, test anxiety, eating disorders, sexual assault awareness and prevention, time management, depression, diversity awareness, communication, etc. Please come by the office to request a program or complete the online form and email it or bring it by the center.

Group Counseling:

Groups that may be offered include: Assertiveness Training, Test Anxiety, Stress Management, Single Parents, Healthy Relationships, Nontraditional Student Support, etc. These groups as well as others will be offered based on students needs. 

Consultation:

The Counseling Center will meet with individuals, small groups, organizations, and departments to assist them in defining issues and developing strategies to deal with concerns. Examples include:

  • I have a friend who needs counseling. What should I do?

  • We want to improve relationships and teamwork among our members. How do we go about that?

  • There seems to be quite a bit of stress and miscommunication in our department. What can we do?
