Update for March 30, 2020 to EGSC Faculty/Staff
During these unprecedented times, the events of each day remind me repeatedly of the importance of East Georgia College to the region we serve and to our amazing students—- and the importance of each one of you to our future. Thank you for all you have done for the college and for your continuing support.
EGSC’s devoted faculty and staff miss seeing you on campus. During the last two weeks, they have prepared intensely for the beginning of wholly online classes on Monday, March 30, 2020. I encourage you to login right now to GeorgiaView D2L Brightspace so that you are ready to go Monday morning.
My previous letters during the COVID-19 situation have told you about the University System of Georgia’s (USG) directive to move to wholly on-line instruction for the rest of spring semester. East Georgia State College has now received approval from the USG to implement a student refund plan for Spring Semester 2020.

The East Georgia State College Book Club participated in the Dr. Seuss Day Celebration at Franklin Memorial Library.
The East Georgia State College Department of Nursing would like to congratulate Dr. Patrice Pierce, Associate Professor of Nursing, in her recent poster presentation and selection as a director for the Georgia Association for Nursing Education, Inc. (GANE).
Carley Stapleton, a student at East Georgia State College, has been named the recipient of the Rachel Jane Frederick Friendship and Service Award.

On Tuesday, March 17, two new officers were sworn in at the East Georgia State College Police Department.
Students, other than those granted specific permission by EGSC Housing to remain on campus during Spring Break and the week following, are directed not to return to campus until you receive written permission to do so.
The University System of Georgia (USG) has decided that all 26 institutions will move to online instruction for all courses for the remainder of the semester with extremely limited exceptions.

Accuplacer testing on campus has been put on hold.
As you know well, East Georgia State College has temporarily suspended instruction for two weeks beginning on Monday, 3/16/2020.
The SAT will still be held on March 14.
Tryouts at East Georgia State College for the men’s basketball team have been cancelled.
East Georgia State College’s gym and fitness center will be closing Friday, March 13 at 5 p.m.
Each semester the club participates in at least one or two service projects. This semester the group decided to put together baskets for patients at the Cancer Center of Middle Georgia.
Yesterday, at about 3:30 pm, all UGA presidents were notified of the following by the University System of Georgia: “Effective Monday, March 16, 2020, all University System of Georgia institutions will temporarily suspend instruction for two weeks to allow time for USG institutions to test their business continuity plans and online instruction modules and for state officials to continue to assess the current situation regarding coronavirus (COVID-19) in Georgia.”
The University System of Georgia (USG) is consulting constantly with the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) and the Governor’s Coronavirus Task Force.
As directed by the University System, EGSC is temporarily suspending instruction for two weeks beginning on March 16, 2020. We will monitor the situation closely and keep you updated as new and more detailed information becomes available.
In an effort to alleviate these barriers, East Georgia State College (EGSC) administrators, staff and students have completed the college’s 8th annual College Readiness Bus Tour.
EGSC fell to GMC by a score of 6 to 3 in game one and 7 to 6 in game two.

East Georgia State College’s Arbor Day Celebration was held Friday, March 6. The celebration was on the Swainsboro campus and featured the planting of a Weeping Willow at Ezra Pond.
East Georgia State College’s Lady Bobcat Softball player Alaina Lee has been selected as softball player of the week for the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA).
East Georgia State College would like to congratulate Ka’Shay Hankerson for being named Freshman Women’s Basketball Player of the Year for the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association.
The East Georgia State College Men’s Basketball Team will compete in the GCAA Tournament.
The East Georgia State College Women’s Softball Team traveled to South Carolina over the weekend to take on USC Union and USC Salkehatchie
