Mark and Andrea Williams and family (Williams Photography Studio of Swainsboro) sponsored the 2014 East Georgia State College Student Art Award, known as the EGSC Purchase Prize Award. Hannah Myria Reynolds, a sophomore at EGSC and the daughter of Alton Reynolds and Ms. Becky Coyt, was presented the 2014 Purchase Prize Award. Her artwork (photography) titled, In Christ Alone, will hang on permanent display at the College and become part of the EGSC Student Art Collection.
“The Mark and Andrea Williams Family have been extremely involved and supportive of the College since the beginning. Mark and Andrea met at the college and later married, graduated from the College, started a local photography business, and their children, Julianne Williams Blount, Marielle Williams Singletary, attended EGSC. Their youngest daughter Caroline Williams is in high school. So the Mark Williams Family has a family connection with the College,” added EGSC Art Professor Desmal Purcell.
East Georgia State College Professor Emeritus of Art, Neil Kalmanson, juried the exhibition. "Regardless of the subject matter, which was obviously religious, the formal qualities of the work is what bowled me over. The symmetry and wonderful sense of proportion kept drawing me back to it as I perused the show. It didn't hurt that the artist's other works were equally as strong, and explored totally different concepts,” commented Professor Kalmanson.
Hannah Reynolds, a 2012 graduate of David Emanuel Academy (DEA) is pursuing a degree in sign language translation and music. At EGSC, Hannah is a member of Baptist Student Organization and sings and plays the ukulele on the Praise Team.
