On Saturday, February 25, 2017, East Georgia State College’s Swainsboro campus was a hub of activity as eleven teams from seven area high schools descended upon the classrooms and labs for the annual Science Olympiad. Participating schools were Swainsboro High School, Richmond Hill High School, H.V. Jenkins High School, Southeast Bulloch High School, Metter High School, Valwood High School and Woodville Tompkins Technical and Career High School.
Students from each of these schools competed in a multitude of STEM activities that included astronomy, chemistry, biology, forensics, geology, mathematics, engineering and more.
Richmond Hill High School took first place overall in the Olympiad, with Southeast Bulloch High School coming in second, Valwood High School third, H.V. Jenkins High School fourth and Metter High School fifth. Every school had team members who won medals in multiple individual events.
The top two schools, Richmond Hill and Southeast Bulloch, will compete in State Competition at Emory University on Saturday, March 25.
Congratulations to all of the participating teams, and we look forward to seeing everyone for next year’s Science Olympiad.
