East Georgia State College’s new online Bachelor of Science in Nursing program has been approved by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools – Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC). This program will serve as an RN to BSN Bridge program to create an educational pathway for associate degree nurses to earn an advanced credential.
The BSN program will be offered in partnership with Southeastern Technical College (STC) in Swainsboro as well as Oconee Fall Line Technical College (OFTC) in Sandersville and Darton State College (now part of Albany State University). This arrangement greatly reduces facility costs and accelerates the implementation of the program, which will, in turn, provide a swift response to the nursing shortage in the area. The program will be housed in Southeastern Tech’s Health Sciences classrooms and laboratories. The facility was opened in May of 2015 and contains state of the art technology and equipment.
“Our EGSC online RN to BSN Bridge nursing program aligns perfectly with the mission and vision of EGSC to offer targeted baccalaureate-level degrees that support the University System’s initiative to expand educational opportunities,” said Nursing Director Dr. Sylvia Rozier. “Offering the program using an online platform will provide access to affordable higher education for Associate Degree-prepared nurses throughout the state of Georgia that desire to obtain their BSN.”
Beginning in Fall of 2017, the program requires 120 credit hours: 60 core, 30 credits of escrowed ADN (Associate Degree Nursing) hours, and 30 upper division nursing credits. Instruction will be online with structured campus interactions and clinical skills labs on the STC Swainsboro or Vidalia campus, whichever is more convenient for the student. The program is designed to fit the schedules of busy nurses and allow them to earn a degree while working.
Dr. Rozier went on to say, “At EGSC, we are moving nurses forward to improve the quality of healthcare for the residents of rural Georgia!”
