Dear Community and Business Leaders:
We would like to share a few updates that we have to better serve our community during the pandemic of COVID-19.
The hospital has testing kits. However, there are guidelines imposed by the CDC and regarding testing. Commercial labs are an option, but supplies are limited and backordered. This link summarizes the testing guidelines. https://dph.georgia.gov/covid-19-guidance-healthcare-professionals COVID-19: Guidance for Healthcare Professionals DPH.GEORGIA.GOV
According to the CDC and DPH guidelines, the best practice is not to send a family member or employee to the Emergency Room for testing. If you suspect that you or a loved one or employee has been exposed to coronavirus, and you are showing correlating symptoms of COVID-19, please take these measures.
Unless you are experiencing a health emergency and need immediate health intervention, do not go to an emergency room. Call your primary care physician’s office to discuss your symptoms and your possible exposure. Your healthcare provider will determine if you need to be tested for COVID-19.
Be prepared to treat the common symptoms of COVID-19, which includes fever, cough, and possible respiratory congestion. Be sure to remain hydrated, drinking plenty of liquids. Sports drinks such as Gatorade and Powerade contain electrolytes that are effective in combating dehydration.
Our clinics now have a telemedicine option with a primary care physician. Your healthcare needs may qualify for a video or phone visit with your doctor or other provider without visiting the office in person. Call your physician's office today and ask if you can set up a telehealth call with your provider without ever leaving home. Please see attached list of our providers with this option.
We continue to partner with Augusta University to bring the essential care to our community. With their free COVID-19 virtual screening, you or a family member experiencing respiratory or flu-like symptoms including fever, coughing and shortness of breath, can take advantage of this service from your home when not in need of critical care. It’s as easy as downloading the app from your tablet or phone by visiting AU website, https://www.augustahealth.org/expresscare/covid-19-virtual-screening. All screenings are FREE and available seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Screenings are secure and confidential. Please consider this as an option for employees needing a release to return to work, as our Emergency room is trying to care for the critically ill patients. Secondly, AU has a hotline for our district for questions regarding COVID-19, 706-721-1852. Lastly, AU has a pre-scheduled COVID-19 drive through testing at Christenberry Fieldhouse, 3109 Wrightsboro Rd, Augusta, GA 30909 10 am – 2 pm and Patriot’s Park 5445 Columbia Rd, Grovetown, GA 30813 3:30 - 4:30 pm. Upon completion of a virtual screening, a patient may be scheduled to visit one of these two drive through testing locations.
Thank you for your continued support to our community and hospital. Emanuel Medical Center and our physician offices are committed to caring for our community. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at 478-289-1100 and ask for Administration.
