Lakeside High wins annual Science Olympiad at EGSC

Lakeside High wins annual Science Olympiad at EGSC

   On Saturday, February 24, 2018, East Georgia State College hosted their annual Science Olympiad. Twelve teams from nine area high schools competed for the first place trophy and a spot at this year’s State Competition. Participating high schools were Southeast Bulloch High School, Lakeside High School, Augusta Area Homeschool, Effingham College and Career Academy, Grovetown High School, H.V. Jenkins High School, Metter High School, A.R. Johnson High School and Woodville-Tompkins Technical and Career High School.
   Students from each of these schools competed in a multitude of STEM activities that included astronomy, chemistry, biology, forensics, geology, mathematics, engineering and more.
   Lakeside High School took first place overall in the Olympiad, with Augusta Area Homeschoolers coming in second place, Southeast Bulloch High in third, H.V. Jenkins High in fourth and Grovetown High in fifth.
   Event awards were as follows: Write it, Do It – First place to Effingham College and Career Academy, second to Augusta Area Homeschoolers, third to Lakeside High Team 1 and fourth to Southeast Bulloch High Team 1; Rocks and Minerals – First place to Lakeside High Team 2, second to Lakeside High Team 1, third to Grovetown High and fourth to Augusta Area Homeschoolers; Game On – First place to Augusta Area Homeschoolers, second to Lakeside High Team 1, third to Southeast Bulloch High Team 1 and fourth to Grovetown High; Chemistry Lab – First place to Lakeside High Team 1, second to Augusta Area Homeschoolers, third to Grovetown High and fourth to Lakeside High Team 2; Astronomy – First place to Lakeside High Team 1, second to Lakeside High Team 2, third to Grovetown High and fourth to H.V. Jenkins High; Towers – First place to Augusta Area Homeschoolers, second to Southeast Bulloch High Team 1, third to Lakeside High Team 1 and fourth to Lakeside High Team 2; Experimental Design – First place to Lakeside High Team 2, second to H.V. Jenkins High, third to Augusta Area Homeschoolers and fourth to Metter High; Hovercraft – first place to Augusta Area Homeschoolers, second to Lakeside High Team 1, third to H.V. Jenkins High and fourth to Lakeside High Team 2; Forensics – First place to Lakeside High Team 1, second to Augusta Area Homeschoolers, third to Effingham CCA Team 1 and fourth to Lakeside High Team 2; Remote Sensing – First place to Lakeside High Team 1, second to Lakeside High Team 2, third to H.V. Jenkins High and fourth to Effingham CCA Team 1; Mousetrap – First place to Augusta Area Homeschoolers, second to H.V. Jenkins High, third to Lakeside High Team 2 and fourth to A.R. Johnson High; Disease Detective – First place to Lakeside High Team 1, second to Effingham CCA Team 1, third to Southeast Bulloch High Team 1 and fourth to Effingham CCA Team 2; Anatomy and Physiology – First place to Lakeside High Team 1, second to Effingham CCA Team 1, third to Lakeside High Team 2 and fourth to Effingham CCA Team 1; Dynamic Planet – First place went to Augusta Area Homeschoolers, second to Southeast Bulloch High Team 1, third to Lakeside High Team 1 and fourth to Lakeside High Team 2; Material Science – First place to Lakeside High Team 1, second to Grovetown High, third to Lakeside High Team 2 and fourth to Woodville-Tompkins TC High; Herpetology – First place to Southeast Bulloch High Team 1, second to Lakeside High Team 2, third to Lakeside High Team 1 and fourth to Grovetown High; Fermi Questions – First place to Lakeside High Team 1, second to Augusta Area Homeschoolers, third to H.V. Jenkins High and fourth to Grovetown High; Helicopters – First place to Augusta Area Homeschoolers, second to H.V. Jenkins High, third to A.R. Johnson High and fourth to Southeast Bulloch High Team 1; Microbe Mission – First place to Lakeside High Team 1, second to Lakeside High Team 2, third to Effingham CCA Team 1 and fourth to Southeast Bulloch High Team 1; Ecology – First place to Lakeside High Team 1, second to Effingham CCA Team 1, third to Southeast Bulloch High Team 1 and fourth to Lakeside High Team 2; Mission Possible – First place to Augusta Area Homeschoolers, second to Lakeside High Team 1, third to Southeast Bulloch High Team 1 and fourth to Lakeside High Team 2; Thermodynamics – First place to Lakeside High Team 2, second to Lakeside High Team 1, third to Grovetown High and fourth to Southeast Bulloch High Team 1; and Optics – First place to Lakeside High Team 2, second to Augusta Area Homeschoolers, third to Lakeside High Team 1 and fourth to Grovetown High.
