The East Georgia State College Lady Bobcats Softball Team traveled to Milledgeville on Wednesday, March 11 to play Georgia Military College (GMC). EGSC fell to GMC by a score of 6 to 3 in game one and 7 to 6 in game two.
The Bobcats could not manage to overcome the home run hitting of GMC in game one. The Bulldogs would score five of their six runs on solo home runs to beat the Bobcats 6 to 3.
Game two would see the Bobcats take a 6 to 5 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning. The Bulldogs then scored on two home runs in the bottom of the seventh to break the Bobcats hearts and capture the win.
“We could not get any timely hits in game one, falling 6 to 3,” said Head Coach Chuck Wimberly. “However, in game two, having fallen behind 5 to 0, we came back to take a 6 to 5 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning, only to fall in the bottom of the inning to a power hitting GMC club. We will be fine. We just have to learn how to hang on to the lead in the last innings. We have lost seven games this spring in the bottom of the seventh inning, and we simply need that break through game where we win one in the final inning”
Wimberly added, “the conference games have just begun, and we will be fine in the end. Our players have confidence, and that is all that matters at this early stage of conference play.”
