Beth Jones has been named the library director at East Georgia State College. In this new role, she will oversee the library. Jones will also handle the budget, the ordering of books and cataloging of books.
Jones started her education by majoring in film and video at Georgia State University. She then got her master’s in library and information studies (MLIS) at Florida State University.
Previously, Jones was employed at Georgia Military College for seven years. She was the reference and instruction librarian and served as an online instruction librarian. Before working for Georgia Military College, Jones worked as a graduate assistant librarian in undergraduate studies at Florida State University.
Along with her degrees, she has a background in marketing and public relations. Jones was employed at Barnes and Noble in their community relations department which handled marketing and public relations.
“I’m just really excited to be here and see what I can bring to the table here,” said Jones. “It’s very different than where I came from so I’m really excited to see what the atmosphere is like here and to get to know the students.”
Jones says getting to know the students is one of her top priorities, along with making the library an inviting place for students.
“I’m hoping to make it become more of a community center for students or learning commons where students want to come and hang out and spend time between classes because there are studies that say the more time students spend in a library, the better their grades are,” said Jones.
