Larson C. (Shot) Strange has endowed a scholarship at East Georgia State College in memory of his wife, Jean. Jean was a charter member of the EGSC Foundation Board of Trustees and was instrumental in the grass roots effort to provide private scholarship funding for students. The Jean and Shot Strange Scholarship is established to aid a rising EGSC sophomore student with at least 30 hours of academic credit. Students will apply via the college’s online scholarship application system where qualification criteria regarding leadership, service, scholarship and need will be outlined. The first recipient will be announced in the Fall of 2017.
Strange is a current member of the EGSC Foundation Board of Trustees and is committed to the advancement of the college and the education of the students. He and Mrs. Strange were the donors for the Shot and Jean Strange clubhouse located in the center of the residential housing complex on campus. The clubhouse is used by all students on campus as a gathering place for meetings and events. There are study rooms, tutoring facilities, a recreation area and exercise facility within the clubhouse. It also houses the office of the EGSC Director of Housing.
This new scholarship is the first of its kind for EGSC. Most of the foundation scholarships are for specific purposes or for freshmen only. This will offer new opportunity to second-year students.
