Emanuel County Pre-K Students Visit EGSC for Dr. Seuss’s Birthday

What better way to celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday than reading to a child? On the morning of Wednesday, March 5th, East Georgia State College participated in “Read Across America” program by inviting 230 Emanuel County pre-k students, teachers, and parents to campus to celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday. The students were entertained by “Cat in the Hat, Thing 1 and 2,” and the college mascot, “Bob the Bobcat.”
Students enjoyed being read to by EGSC education students, watched a Dr. Seuss movie, toured campus, sang the birthday song to Dr. Seuss, and had a class photo taken with the Seuss characters. The event was sponsored by EGSC’s Department of Student Life.
Why celebrate Dr. Seuss? His books epitomizes a love of children and learning His use of rhyme, also makes his books an effective tool for teaching young children the basic skills they need to be successful. “When we celebrate Dr. Seuss and reading, we send a clear message to our children that reading is fun and important,” added Vicki Sherrod, EGSC’s Director of Student Life.
