EGSC Library wins Bobcat Regatta

On September 26, 2015, East Georgia State College held their annual Parents, Family, Friends and Alumni Day. This free, all-day event was open to the entire community, and kicked off in full with the Annual Bobcat Regatta. This year, for the first time, the boats, constructed only of duct tape and cardboard, had a theme. The fifteen entries all created their boats around book titles.
Awards were given for the Most Creative/Best Use of Theme, Overall Winner, and Titanic Award. Winning the Most Creative/Best Use of Theme was Cat in the Hat, built by the Student Government Association and crewed by Caitlan Coleman, Hannah Gray, Ami Boatright, Barrett Pritchard, Breanna Stidem, Keionnie Williams and Akira Sutton. Overall Winner, meaning the boat who made it across the pond first in their heat, then first overall, was Moby Dick built by the EGSC Library. It was crewed by Rachelle Johnson, Natalie Jordan, Kimberly Hamilton and Kristen Pitts. The Titanic Award, given each year for the boat that sinks the most spectacularly, went to the Boy Scouts of America Pack 75, crewed by Ben Bennett, Wallace Kersey, Dusty Horsley, TL Curry and Sloan Murphy.
After the race, a free lunch featuring fried or baked chicken and all the fixings was served to those in attendance. Other activities for attendees to enjoy included English Country Dancing, liquid nitrogen ice cream, making silly putty, spin art, and more! A great time was had by all attendees, and EGSC looks forward to seeing the community at next year’s event.
The event was sponsored in part by Southern Computer Warehouse, Corvias Campus Living, BT Conferencing, and in-kind donations from Harvey’s and Walmart.
