The East Georgia State College Women’s Softball Team picked up two victories on Tuesday, March 10 against Southern Union, the top ranked team in Alabama.
The Bobcats were led in game one by freshman pitcher, Payten Strickland, who pitched seven complete innings. Strickland and the Bobcats would get the win with a score of 4 to 3.
Getting the job done at the plate for game one was Reese Stalvey who would go 3 for 3 with 2 RBI’s and one run scored. Olivia Christian got 2 RBI’s with a homerun to score two runs in the second inning. The Bobcats scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a fly ball by Makenzie Wilkerson, which would score Madison Denning on a tag from third to give the Bobcats a 4 to 3 win.
In game two Madison Bussell was on the mound for five innings to help get the win. Madison Poole closed out the final two innings as the Bobcats got the victory 7 to 2.
At the plate in game two the Bobcats were led by Allana Hooks with 4 RBI’s on two hits and Casey Sims hitting a solo shot over the left field fence in the sixth inning to end the scoring for the team with seven runs on the day.
“We played the best we have played all season at all positions in the field on Tuesday,” said Head Coach Chuck Wimberly. “Our pitchers did extremely well against a highly talented Southern Union team, and we had timely hits when moving runners into position to score.”
