EGSC hosts Dr. Seuss Day

On Monday, March 6, 2017, East Georgia State College celebrated Read Across America with a Dr. Seuss Day for Emanuel County Pre-K and Jenkins County Head Start students. Read Across America Day is held on March 2, the birthday of the author Dr. Seuss, who was born in 1904. Read Across America started in 1997 and has continued to generate enthusiasm for reading nation-wide, always emphasizing the importance of motivating children to read, according to Lily Eskelsen García, president of the National Education Association (which organizes the event.)
Miss East Georgia State College 2017, Miley Keyton, was joined by members of the EGSC Student Government Association and Ambassadors in reading Dr. Seuss classics to the children, as well as giving them a tour of the campus and playing games on the quad, plus completing fun Dr. Seuss coloring sheets. Other students reading to the children were members of the EGSC Education Program taught by Jim Beall.
The event is held yearly at EGSC and is sponsored by the Office of Student Life. Photos can be found on EGSC’s Flickr page at https://www.flickr.com/photos/egcpr/albums.
