On Saturday, September 21 East Georgia State College held Family & Friends Fun Day at the Swainsboro campus, inviting the campus and community to enjoy free fun and games provided by the Office of Student Life, the EGSC Foundation and various clubs and organizations on campus.
The day kicked off with the Annual Bobcat Regatta, where teams constructed boats of duct tape and cardboard and attempted to either make it across Ezra Pond first or sink in the most spectacular manner. The Peter & Margie Shedd Overall Award was presented to the USS GA 1842 Trail Life – Sword of the Spirit for the second consecutive year. The Peter & Margie Shedd Most Creative Award went to The Professor, constructed by the EGSC STEM Club. The coveted Peter & Margie Shedd Titanic Award went to the Mystery Machine, constructed by the Student Government Association.
Following the Regatta, attendees enjoyed different activities from the Art Club, Circle K Club, Criminal Justice Club, International Club, Student Government Association, STEMM Club, the University System of Georgia and many more! There was also a trolley ride around campus and a barrel train for kids.
A Sidewalk Chalk Contest was held in front of the gym, with squares open for teams of two or single artists to show off their skills. Winning the contest was Marla Ramirez with her art of a sculpture that gave a 3-D illusion. Makayla Wilder and Shawn Smith came in second with their colorful fish design. Third place went to Niara Dorian for her heart design.
The day also featured free hot dogs, hamburgers, drinks and chips from Student Life, the Foundation and Coca-Cola, cotton candy from the Swainsboro Kiwanis Club, and snow cones from Sno-Biz of Vidalia.
