On February 19, 2016, eight members of East Georgia State College’s Phi Beta Lambda Chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America traveled to Southern Regional Technical College in Tifton for the South District competition. Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda, Inc. (FBLA-PBL) is the largest career student organization in the world. The organization helps over 250,000 members each year prepare for careers in business.
During the conference, a series of competitive events are held to test students’ knowledge in business and business-related academic fields of study. There were approximately 130 students from 12 different colleges at this year’s conference.
The results of the competition are as follows: Lacey Bishop – Sales Presentation – 2nd place; Carmela Ciccone – Public Speaking – 1st place; Joseph Powell – Accounting Principles – 2nd place; Joseph Powell – Impromptu Speaking – 4th place; Dana Roberts – Future Business Executive – 1st place; Jordan Robins – Accounting Principles – 1st place; Morgan Bennett – Justice Administration – 4th place; Britney Milton – Entrepreneurship Concepts – 5th place; and Heather McCullough – Management Concepts – 3rd place.
According to Dr. Lee Cheek, Dean of the School of Social Sciences, “We owe a great thanks to Professor Goss and to our amazing students for affirming our effort to help train business leaders for the 21st century. Over time, the high quality of business education the students are receiving and evidencing will have a transformative and positive influence on the business culture of Southeast Georgia.”
The students will now compete at the State conference in April in Atlanta. Top state winners will then be eligible to compete for national awards in June in Atlanta.
