East Georgia State College Bobcat Athletics kicked off the fall season Saturday, September 7, 2019 at the first GCAA Sophomore Softball Showcase in Macon, Ga., at Mercer University. The EGSC softball team sent 10 participants to the event.
The event started with a pro-style tryout in front of over 20 four-year college coaches. During the tryout, athletes ran 20-yard dashes for times and made infield and outfield throws to showcase their talents. East Georgia State College sophomores Jana Crews and Alaina Lee each ran the fastest times in the pool of 40 participants.
The final event of the evening had all teams of the GCAA Region 17 split into two teams. East Georgia State College, Andrew College and ABAC took on GMC, Georgia Highlands College, South Georgia and Gordon during the final event.
East Georgia State College’s Athletic Director Chuck Wimberly said the Bobcats really shined during the game.
“Man, did the Bobcats put on a show at the end, winning in fine fashion in the bottom of the 7th inning with a walk-off double by sophomore catcher for EGSC, Alaina Lee, winning 4 to 3,” said Wimberly. “All of our Lady Bobcats were most impressive on this day, making diving stops, incredible throws for outs, and showcasing their talents.”
The softball team and coaches would like to thank the teachers, staff and students for their support. Wimberly said he looks forward to another great year of Bobcat Athletics. Fall baseball, men’s basketball and women’s basketball will begin shortly, and schedules are available on EGSC’s website at www.ega.edu/athletics.
