East Georgia State College’s Dr. Lee Cheek and Dr. Brett Larson recently received an Affordable Learning Georgia Textbook Transformation Grant for 2019. ALG is a University System of Georgia Initiative that seeks to increase student success rates by reducing the costs of course materials. To further its goal, ALG awards professors grants to redesign their courses to use no or low-cost materials instead of traditional, high-cost textbooks.
Drs. Cheek and Larson will use this grant to transform American Government, which is a required course for all EGSC students. The project will start in Spring of 2019 and wrap up in Fall of 2019. Cheek and Larson will evaluate existing no-cost resources, revise them and develop new ones. The potential savings for EGSC students are enormous. Currently, textbooks for American Government can cost $100-200. After the redesign, all course materials will be free.
Dr. Cheek is a professor of political science and Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. He joined the EGSC faculty in 2013 and will return to teaching political science full time in Spring of 2019.
Dr. Larson is an assistant professor of political science and joined the EGSC faculty in 2016.
