Dr. Jimmy Wedincamp has been named Dean of the School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. Formerly the Interim Dean, Dr. Wedincamp will begin his official duties as Dean on July 1, 2016.
“Leadership of our School of Mathematics and Science is critical,” said Dr. Bob Boehmer, EGSC President. “Our new bachelors of science in biology program is growing rapidly. We are in the final planning stages for our proposed bachelors of science in nursing. EGSC is truly fortunate to have a person with Dr. Wedincamp’s abilities and qualifications step up to the plate and accept these challenges.”
Dr. Wedincamp graduated with his associates degree from EGSC in 1988, then earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biology from Georgia Southern University. He earned his Ph.D. in entomology from Louisiana State University. He served in the United States Army during Operation Iraqi Freedom and in the U.S. Army Reserve Medical Services Corps since 1998, and is a member of the Georgia Entomological Society, Georgia Academy of Science, the Altamaha River Keeper Association, Entomological Society of America and the Ogeechee River Valley Association. The Entomological Society of America recognizes Dr. Wedincamp as a Board Certified Entomologist (BCE) with a specialty in Medical and Veterinary Entomology.
Dr. Wedincamp has authored numerous publications and, in 2012, was named Distinguished Faculty of the Year in the Mathematics and Sciences Division of East Georgia State College. In 2013, he was recognized with the Georgia Southern University Department of Biology Distinguished Alumnus Award.
“East Georgia State College is a leader in the access institution sector in the state of Georgia,” said Dr. Wedincamp. “I see opportunities for the School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences to continue to grow to meet the current and evolving needs of our students. Together with our talented faculty and staff, I believe we can continue the upward trajectory our former Dean, Dr. Bob Brown, began. This is a great opportunity for me and I’m excited to be here and to be a part of a growing and vibrant institution devoted to improving the lives of our students.”
Dr. Jimmy Wedincamp, current Chair of the Biology Department, has been named Interim Dean of the School of Mathematics and Natural Science.
