Dr. Gilbert to speak at 508 Compliance Workshop

On March 28, 2017, East Georgia State College will host a 508 Compliance Workshop from 1 – 5 p.m. at the Sudie A. Fulford Community Learning Center. Speaker for the workshop will be Dr. Linda Gilbert.
Dr. Gilbert received her PhD in Instructional Technology from the University of Georgia in 1999. As Public Service Faculty at the University of Georgia, Dr. Gilbert served as program evaluator on multiple projects funded by either the U.S. Department of Education or the National Science Foundation and taught qualitative research classes. In 2009, she accepted the position of Director of Learning Technology at Georgia Gwinnett College. After her initial retirement, she returned to Georgia Gwinnett half-time from 2011-2016. Her work focused on data management and strategic initiatives, including leading the 508 Compliance Task Force. Dr. Gilbert is currently involved in promoting civic engagement.
“The issue of 508 Compliance is one that is implicit in both the ethical and legal standards of higher education,” said EGSC President Bob Boehmer. “Data from the U.S. Department of Education shows that 11% of undergraduates have a disability. Moreover, our website and online materials affect not only current students, but prospective students, parents and other persons with interest in East Georgia State College.”
Section 508 of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1973 clarifies and strengthens the Federal government’s existing obligation to ensure that technology is accessible to people with disabilities. All are encouraged to attend this workshop. RSVP to Dr. Dee McKinney, Associate Dean of Teaching and Learning, by Friday, March 24 at 478-289-2062 or dmckinney@ega.edu.
