East Georgia State College Professor of Biology Dr. David Chevalier has been named the Interim Chair of Biology. He has been a professor at EGSC since 2013, joining the college from Mississippi State University. During his time at EGSC, he has served on multiple task forces and committees for the betterment of the college and is very involved in the local community.
Dr. Chevalier earned his Bachelor of Science in Plant Biology and Physiology from the University of Tours, France; his Masters degree in Plant Biology from the University of Montpellier, France; and his Ph.D. in Botany from the University of Zurich, Switzerland.
“Dr. Chevalier’s commitment to students is self-evident,” said Dr. Jimmy Wedincamp, Dean of the School of Math and Natural Sciences. “He is passionate about teaching and he is highly trained in the biological sciences. We are truly lucky to have such a highly qualified individual serve as the new leader of the Biology Department.”
“My main goals as the Interim Biology Chair are to further the success accomplished by Dr. Wedincamp by increasing the enrollment and graduation rates for both the Associate and Bachelor in Sciences in Biology programs and develop an outreach program with the local communities and schools,” said Dr. Chevalier.
“Dr. Chevalier has been a leader at East Georgia State College in our efforts to involve undergraduate students in scientific research,” said EGSC President Bob Boehmer. “He is both an outstanding researcher and teacher. EGSC is fortunate to have Dr. Chevalier take on this new role.”
