East Georgia State College's Professor Roger Byrd presented a paper entitled "Incarceration, Education, and Recidivism: Everything Has a Price" at the 2016 Georgia Political Science Association Annual Conference. The paper presented Byrd's research on what does and does not work in reducing recidivism - the re-incarceration of former inmates. Byrd's work extensively examines prison education and recidivism rates, compares the cost of both, and recommends potential policy alternatives.
The GPSA Annual Meeting was held in Savannah on November 10 - 12.
According to Dr. Lee Cheek, Dean of the School of Social Sciences at EGSC, Professor Byrd's paper "testifies to the broad and ardent pattern of political analysis we are producing at East Georgia, and this scholarship and mentorship of students in the social sciences will bear much fruit in the future."
