East Georgia State College experienced a tremendous turnout of students and community guests for the Second Annual Bobcat Regatta, held at Erza Pond on campus on Monday afternoon at 5p.m. EGSC students from Dabney Edenfield’s art class built cardboard and duct tape boats and raced them across the campus lake. Sponsored by EGSC’s Student Life Department , grilled hotdogs and hamburgers were served along with cold water and colas. The overall winner for fastest boat was awarded to EGSC’s Student Government Association (SGA)’s U.S.S. SGA. The builders of the U.S.S SGA were Janet Alvares, Kaidy English, Austin Fultz, Tommy Green, Gregg Hardy, Raven Hudson, T’Leyah Sutton, and Aaron Tanner. The Best Dressed Team Award was presented to Quacktastic, built by Alan Donnely, Richard Gilmer, Ashley Hayes, Maegan Jackson, and Cayla Page. The Most Creative Boat Award was presented to Ariel, built by Shakeila Evans, K.C. McAdoo, and Omar Rodriguez. The Titanic Award for boat that sank fastest was awarded to Nemo, built by Preshonda Dupree and Keidra Steward. The official judges were Neil Kalmanson and Desmal Purcell.
