Bobcat Baseball More Solid Middle Season

The East Georgia State College Bobcats baseball team got off to a slow start, but they seem to be coming around as of late. The Bobcats are currently sitting at 10-22 on the season, and 3-12 in the conference.

The team’s struggles have been mostly on the offensive side, where the team has struggled for most of the year. The positive for them is that they are starting to come around, which could quickly turn the team’s fortunes around.

If the bats can heat up, they will match up well with a pitching staff that has been solid throughout the year and they could definitely make a push for the conference tournament .

Jones Farriba is currently the team’s leading hitter, posting an average of .292 with 18 runs scored with an OPS of .763. He’s been the most consistent bat for the team all year. Chris Hobbs is right behind him with an average of .286 with 13 runs scored, and an OPS of .791. Michael Brown follows them with an average of .278, nine runs scored, 10 RBI, and an OPS of .727.

Austin Denney has continued to be the best pitcher on the team, so while he’s only posted a 2-7 record, he’s still got an ERA of 3.79 through 52.2 innings pitched, striking out 38, giving up 52 hits, and walking 20. Denney has also put up some solid numbers at the plate when he gets to hit, hitting .265 with six runs scored and six RBI while posting an OPS of .724.

Ashley Claxton has posted a record of 1-3 with an ERA of 4.70 through 44 innings pitched, striking out 19, allowing 54 hits, and walking 18.

The pitching has been solid for the Bobcats all year, they just need the bats to come around and play more consistently. The season is not dead, they just have to pull together and get hot to make a push to play in the conference tournament.
