This past week, East Georgia State College’s Bobcats collected several accolades from the GCAA.
The Bobcat Basketball Team saw four young men make the All-Star Team. They were De’Miria Glover of Monticello, Ga., Aaron Reddick of Douglasville, Tariq Jenkins of Jonesboro and Dallas Jacks of Douglasville. They played Saturday, April 14 at Central Georgia Tech in Macon in the GCAA All-Star Game, with Jacks in the Freshman Game and Glover, Reddick and Jenkins in the Sophomore Game.
The Lady Bobcat Basketball Team was also honored to have Khari Jernigan of Lilburn, Aandia Mayhew of McDonough and Daniella Vizcaya of Hiram, named to the GCAA All-Star Team. They will play in the All-Star Game on April 28 at 2 p.m. at Chattahoochee Valley Community College.
The Lady Bobcat Softball Team also had honors to celebrate, as Taylor Long of Milledgeville was named GCAA Player of the Week and Harlee Rewis of Springfield was named GCAA Pitcher of the Week. Long had a .615 batting average, 4 SB, 2 RBIs, 2 doubles, 3 runs, 13 POs and 6 As in four games played the week of April 10. Rewis was 2-0; IP: 14, R: 3, ER: 2, Ks: 9, 2 BB and 0.143 ERA last week.
The Lady Bobcat Softball Team also came away with a victory against Brenau University in Gainesville, Ga. on April 12 and traveled to Gordon State on Saturday, April 14 in an all-important conference match up. They fell in game on 6 – 5, but were able to capture the victory in game two by a score of 4 – 3. The Lady Bobcats faced USC Salkehatchie on Tuesday at home and will travel to West Georgia Tech on Saturday and Georgia Highlands on Sunday. Both of the latter games are conference games with tremendous playoff implications. At the time of this article, the Lady Bobcats are in 5th place, just one game behind 4th place Gordon State, and two games behind 3rd place Georgia Highlands. The Softball Tournament dates are May 3 – 6 in Rome, Ga.
The Bobcat Baseball team also came away victorious on April 12, defeating ABAC 14 – 9 for another conference win. The Bobcats posted four runs in the first inning, but ABAC fought back to tie the game at 4 – 4 in the fifth. The Bobcats picked up the pace and scored eight runs to capture the victory. This win put the Bobcats in first place with a record of 13 – 4 in the conference, two games ahead of South Georgia State College (six losses). The Bobcats took on ABAC again on Saturday, April 14, winning both games and keeping their first place slot. They took on West Georgia Tech on Tuesday, April 17, and will have home games Friday and Saturday against West Georgia. Game time on Friday is 3 p.m., and 1 and 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Baseball Tournament dates are May 9 – 12 at Gordon State College in Barnesville, Ga.
