Biology students attend research symposium

   East Georgia State College biology students Lindsey Michelle Howell, Derick R. Thompson and Dana Michelle Bedgood recently attended Albany State University’s 4th Annual Regional Undergraduate Research Symposium in Albany on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015. The students accompanied Dr. Jimmy Wedincamp, Dr. Ed Schneider and Dr. David Chevalier to the symposium, which was presented by the Center for Undergraduate Research at ASU.
    While there, the students gave presentations. Howell presented a poster titled “Identification of New MicroRNAs in the Chlamydomonas Reinhardti.” She is the student of Dr. Chevalier and is continuing the research he began during the summer at the University of South Alabama. Thompson gave a presentation titled “Changes in Algal Populations in Georgia Farm Ponds Over Time.” He is the student of Dr. Schneider. Bedgood gave a presentation entitled “Baseline Water Monitoring of the Ohoopee River.” She is the student of Dr. Wedincamp and is currently an intern with the Altamaha Riverkeeper.
