The East Georgia State College Baseball and Softball teams began their Fall season by playing at Mercer University.
Nine members of the Bobcat Baseball team played in the All Star Showcase on Friday, Sept. 22, 2017. This special showcase was a chance for our Bobcats to show their talents to over 30 Division I scouts and five Major League Baseball scouts. It was an exciting time for the Bobcats to be on the big stage in front of so many representatives from colleges and MLB teams across the nation.
“The All Star game was a great opportunity for our Bobcats to play in front of numerous college and professional scouts,” said Interim Head Baseball Coach Dusty Hess. “Our guys performed very well during the game and played with a lot of energy!”
The Bobcats then opened their regular Fall season with a victory at home on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017 against Scoutz Prep. They took the game 14 to 4, with the Bobcats running the bases to post 14 runs and playing great defense.
The Lady Bobcats also traveled to Mercer University, arriving Sunday to play a double-header against Mercer University and Georgia College and State University. The Lady Bobcats fell in game one to Mercer with a score of 12 to 2, but bounced back for game two against GCSU to win by one point, with a final score of 11 to 10. The final point was scored in the bottom of the 7th with a walk off hit.
“Our ladies are looking promising this year as they are learning each other and working to become a team,” said Head Softball Coach Becca Hewitt. “I have high hopes for this group and I can't wait to see what the future holds.”
