Alumni Spotlight

East Georgia State College proudly introduces Livia Morris Daniel as the December EGSC Alumni Spotlight recipient. Livia graduated from EGSC in spring of 2009 with an Associate of Arts in History.

Thinking back Livia, how did you learn about EGSC?
“Since I lived in Swainsboro from the time I started kindergarten, my family had always known about EGSC. My mother had gone to school there when she was younger, we played tennis there, and we had visited the campus numerous times before I decided to attend.”

Tell us a little bit about your time at EGSC. Were you involved in sports or club activities?
“I was active in SGA (Student Government Association) both years I was there. I was elected SGA President my second year at EGSC and was also a Student Ambassador to the college both years."

Where did you go after graduating from EGSC?
“After graduation from EGSC, I went straight to Augusta State University, now Georgia Regents University. While there I obtained a Bachelor’s of History with a Secondary Certification."

Livia, what was your most memorable moment as an EGSC student?
“Probably one of my favorite memories is canoeing in the pond with all of my fellow SGA members and Ms. Vicki Sherrod. We had so much fun and ended up in the pond! I can also thank EGSC, because I met my husband while we were both in school there. We had Dr. Carter’s Government class and Dr. Stracher’s Geology class together.”

What advice would you give to current EGSC students?
“I would tell them to set a goal and plan to reach it. Things won’t always be easy and sometimes you might feel like it would be easier to just give up, but you never should. Just keep on keepin’ on and you will reach your goals and you will be so thankful you didn’t give up!”

What are your future plans?
“My future plans are to stay in Swainsboro and keep teaching at SHS. I am currently working on my Master’s from Georgia Southern University, so I will be happy when I obtain my Master’s degree!”

Is there anything else you would like to share?
“The last thing I would like to share is that EGSC is such a wonderful school and I am grateful for all the opportunities the school provided me with! I loved my entire experience at EGSC. Not only did I gain knowledge in all of my classes there, I also was able to develop as a person and as a leader. If you had told me when I started college there I would have been SGA President, I would never have believed I could do it. With such a dedicated faculty and staff that helped me along every step of the way, I was able to flourish at EGSC.”

Livia is currently employed by the Emanuel County Board of Education as a U.S. History teacher at Swainsboro High School. She is the daughter of John and Diane Morris and a member of Swainsboro First United Methodist Church. Livia has two sisters, Vanessa and Kirstyn. Vanessa recently graduated from EGSC in May of 2014 and Kirstyn will be attending EGSC in the fall of 2015. Livia and her husband, Rett Daniel, live in Swainsboro.
