On Friday, September 22, 2017, East Georgia State College’s Swainsboro campus was filled with teams of students dashing from place to place to photograph clues in the Instagram Scavenger Hunt. From performing their best Steve Irwin imitation to photographing a team member levitating, the clues led the students to discover different parts of campus and to exercise their creativity when taking photos.
There were two awards: Best Team and Best in Show. Winners received Amazon Echo Dots.
The winning team consisted of Alayja Connely, Daniella Vazcaya and Jada Neal.
The winners for Best in Show won on the merit of their interpretation of the clue “photograph a member of your team levitating.” They were Jeffery Whitlock, Naseem Bernard and Thomas Rhodes.
Judges for the event were EGSC Art Professor Desmal Purcell and EGSC Head of the Fire and Emergency Services Administration Program Beverley Walker.
“Best in Show was a hard one to pick,” said Walker. “It was chosen due to its clarity and the fact that it portrayed fun and enjoyment. The team that won showed creativity and thoughtfulness in their poses and in their description of the clues. It was great to see so many students turn out for a fun event!”
“The winning shot embodied—for me—everything the scavenger hunt was about. It was a team having fun, making a great image and celebrating EGSC,” added Purcell. “The team that won best in show seemed to consistently find a method of crafting the image in a fun, thoughtful manner. Their images were clear, the compositions engaging and the topic translations were thoughtful.”
