EAST GEORGIA STATE BOBCATS DOMINATE IN FIRST GAME OF NJCAA NATIONAL TOURNAMENT IN HUTCHINSON KANSAS

By – Will Brown

In their first ever trip to Kansas for the NJCAA National Championship, the East Georgia State College Bobcats came into their first game and dominated Coffeeyville Community College, who many believed was a favorite in the tournament, by a score of 79-47.

The Bobcats got out to a very hot start, with Jordan Johnson hitting two early threes. They led by a score of 13-0 before Coffeeyville was able to put up a basket.

The Bobcats defense was really the difference in this game, just as Coach Neil Bailey thought it might be. Early on, the Bobcats forced tough shot after tough shot for Coffeeyville, who struggled to hit anything at all in the first half and went into the locker room trailing by a score of 38-19.

Trey HaGood showed up big time on the stat sheet getting several steals while doing his usual damage on the offensive end, with Johnson knocking down several threes throughout the game.

The Bobcats kept up their defensive pressure and got clicking on offense in the second half and quickly put the game way out of reach cruising to victory.

The Bobcats next game will be against number two-seed Spartanburg Methodist, who hasn't lost a game the entire year and defeated Kilgore College by a score of 53-51. Coach Bailey feels like the Bobcats match up well against them, and will get a chance to see on Thursday, March 21st, at 6:00 PM. Central time .

THE GAME WILL BE WEBCAST ON www.njcaa.org/tv at 7 PM EASTERN.  IT WILL BE SHOWN IN THE GAMBRELL AUDITORIUM ON CAMPUS AT EAST GEORGIA STATE COLLEGE, SWAINSBORO. EVERYONE WELCOME TO COME OUT.
