The University of Georgia’s African-American Male Initiative Conference (AAMI)was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia the weekend of September 27-29, 2012. It was the 10th Anniversary African American Male Initiative Conference (AAMI) and five East Georgia State College Students attended: Willie Powell (yellow shirt), Tyrone Moody (burgundy), Thomas Simons, Demetrius Boston, & Justin Ilugbo. They had the opportunity to participate in a series of workshops and a phenomenal line-up of speakers who inspired and motivated institutional administrators and students to implement a program that will address the crisis of retaining and graduating African-American male students on their campuses. The primary purpose of the conference was to share the outcomes and challenges of the USG’s AAMI program and to bring together some of the best practitioners in the field of work at the state and national level. Ms. Deborah Kittrell-Mikell, Mr. Antre Drummer & Ms. Connie Young-Johnson served as East Georgia State College Leaders/Representatives for the event.
