EGSC’s Amelia J. Simmons Recognized as Mentor Teacher at Burke County High

East Georgia State College’s Instructor of English and Reading, Amelia Simmons, M.Ed., has been selected to be honored as a Mentor Teacher during Burke County High School’s Honor Graduate Banquet on Thursday, April 24 at the First Baptist Church in Waynesboro.
Each honor graduate is allowed to recognize a teacher that made a tremendous difference as a Mentor Teacher in the graduates’ education throughout high school. Simmons was chosen by Kaleb Tobat (ranked third in his class) and he discussed how she made an impact upon him in the 9th grade.
“Mrs. Simmons, then serving as a Burke County educator, challenged my thinking, motivated my desire to learn, and sparked my creativity,” explained Mr. Tobat.
Simmons replied, “I am humbled by the impact that I made on this student and hopefully many others. I am honored to represent East Georgia State College at this banquet and hopefully will have the opportunity to teach many of them in the future at the college!”
