Rest In Peace, Dr. David Bartram

It is with great sadness that East Georgia State College says goodbye to a devoted professor, civic leader and eternal friend, Dr. David Bartram. Formerly of Owosso, Michigan, Dr. Bartram passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, December 26, 2012. A memorial service was held Monday, December 31, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Owosso with Military Honors. Details regarding a memorial service in Swainsboro will be shared as soon as they are available.

Dr. Bartram was born February 11, 1949 in Durand, Michigan, the son of Gerald Bartram and Flora (Allen) Johnson.

He graduated from Owosso High School, class of 1967, served in the United States Army during Vietnam and then attended Michigan State University earning a bachelors degree and Western Michigan University earning a masters degree. David earned his Ph D from Commonwealth Open University.

Dr. Bartram was a past member of the First Congregational Church and VFW post in Owosso and was a recent member of the First United Methodist Church and Kiwanis Club in Swainsboro, GA. He was an avid MSU and EGSC sports fan and loved to laugh and make others laugh with his many stories. David was a writer and wrote several educational books and textbooks for college level students.

He married Kathryn Bloomfield at First Congregational Church on December 29, 1984.

Dr. Bartram joined the faculty of East Georgia State College in 2001. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he was the Division Chair of the Social Sciences Division. Prior to EGSC Dr. Bartram was employed with IVY Technical State College in Elkhart, IN; Baker College of Owosso as chair of the accounting department, and Davenport University in Lansing. Dr. Bartram also worked in the private sector with the CPA firm of Demis and Wenzlick in Owosso.

He is survived by his wife Kathryn; daughter Brandie (James) Tenney; son Ryan (Sarah) Stemple; 3 grandchildren Alexandra, Cal and Azalea; parents Gerald Bartram and Flora Johnson; brother Daniel (Vickie) Bartram; sister Cathy (John) Conrad; several nieces and nephews. David is predeceased by his grandparents.

Memorial contributions are suggested to The Congregational Church of Owosso or the Owosso VFW Post.
