Miss East Georgia State College Kathryn Cox, along with East Georgia State College Student Life, is hosting a 5k and fun run Saturday, January 25, 2020, to benefit Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis. The Run Strong JIA 5k will begin at 8 a.m. at Mill Creek Park in Statesboro. The fun run will begin at 9 a.m.

JIA is near and dear to the heart of Kathryn Cox, a Sophomore at EGSC. She was diagnosed with JIA around the age of two. She chose the disease as her platform in which she decided to take on as her community service project. Through this event she, along with EGSC, hopes to raise awareness of this disease and raise money to provide medical research and help find programs that benefit juvenile idiopathic arthritis patients and their families.

The Run Strong JIA 5k is an opportunity to move for something that matters. Participants can enter the race for $20. Anyone age 20 and under, is $10 to join, and EGSC students can join for $5. The fun run is a $5 participation fee.  Participants will receive a t-shirt. The 5K will kick off at 8 a.m. and awards will be given to the top qualifiers. Runners can check in an hour before race time.

Participants can join the JIA 5k as a team or individual. Registration ends January 10, 2020, and registration forms can be found at
