Dear EGSC students,
As the Labor Day holiday weekend approaches, I recall a story about an 18 year-old army private at an army base in southern Texas standing in line to get a 36-hour pass. As he approached the 2nd lieutenant handing out the passes, the officer asked, “Where are you going?” The private answered “Nuevo Laredo, Sir.” The 2nd lieutenant paused and said, “Private, hope you have thought about the risks you are taking. Is it worth risking the next 450,000 hours of your life for the risks you are going to be taking in the next 36 hours?” So, I just went to San Antonio, had a great 36 hours eating too much food and watching movies. I have not yet finished the next 450,000 hours the lieutenant mentioned, but I am getting close, and I am still grateful for that 2nd lieutenant’s question.
So, as Labor Day approaches during the COVID-19 pandemic, please ask yourself if the risks you are considering over the weekend are worth risking the great life awaiting you during your next 450,000 hours. All I am asking is that you make good choices, socially distance, wash your hands and wear a face mask. Have a great Labor Day weekend.
Please stay safe, be healthy, and make good choices.
