Warren Goosby, East Georgia State College’s women’s basketball coach, was recently named GCAA Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year!
Goosby was appointed the head women’s basketball coach at EGSC last year. Before that time, he was an assistant coach for five years and skills trainer for both men and women’s basketball. He also served one year as the interim head women’s basketball coach.
A student of the game who began coaching at the high school level in 2002 while completing his undergraduate degree, Goosby also played professional and semi-professional basketball before beginning his career in education as a high school English teacher. He transitioned from his career in secondary education to post-secondary, working for Savannah State University and Georgia Southern University. This is also when he began volunteering with East Georgia State College Men’s Basketball.
Goosby’s basketball I.Q. and ability to teach the game has caused him to be a sought-after coach and trainer, and his ability to relate and communicate with student-athletes has helped him recruit athletes that have gone on to play Division I Basketball.
“Coach Goosby is a hard worker and is much deserving of the coach of the year honor from the GCAA for women’s basketball. We are very glad to have him here at East Georgia State College,” said Chuck Wimberly, EGSC athletic director.
